looked at a 930 yesterday...confused

Am I being unreasonable to expect a car priced at $60K to be very, very near factory perfect? Is it reasonable to not accept things like gross rocker finish texture mismatch, floor pan distortion from hoist pad mal-placement, engine rebuild at ~30K miles, only one stamp in the maint book.... . Maybe it's me. What say ye?

Either mint stocker or super modded to death billion hp track mobile...and if its a bone stock 930 for $60k...all should be like it rolled off the showroom floor with all documentation.

You going for a garage queen or driver?

I say run away from this one. Prices for decent to great examples fetch around $30-35k if I've read the market right lately.

Gotta agree with Gabe on this.

At $60k she should be schweet with no arguments for a stocker, and righteously done for a balls to the wall modded car.

I would say be patient.. in this market you can find yourself a very clean 930 in the $40k + range.

jk bro

For a "on subject" note, is the value level really at $40k now? Been a few months since I looked.

I have seen a mint 930 with 3000+ miles offered at around that price. A car which appears to still be on the showroom floor.

A few 1989 930s are already starting to sell below 30 grand for the simple fact that the market is on life support. Some people simply have to sell today, whether it is a 930 or a Kia or a house.

I've been eyeing an 86 with 20K miles, stock and showroom condition, we've settled at 30k...I think that it is a very good price...any opinions?

Hey Man...

Not a bad thing at all...

I just think that $60k is all the money and then some for a stock 930 and it should be just about perfect for that money, I mean showroom new with low miles, would think it should be an 89 as well. That same $60k should buy you a highly modded 930 too.. Take your pick..
Personally I'd lean to the modded cars.

As for the $40k.. that is still on the high side in my opinion, and as I stated, I think that should buy a super nice car. I would really think that this is where the real money should be for the cars we're speaking about which are offered at $60. Again, stock or modded...

Pav,,
That's crazy money,, go out and spend 20k, then mod it to the exact spec you want,, find out what the $60k owner is smoking and spend your left over money on a couple of ounces of whatever that is .......
You can pretty much build one from the ground up for $60k JMHO...

The car above may be the buy of a lifetime.

20k miles on an 86 is what? ... something like 900 miles per year? That seems awful low to me unless the car sat unregistered for many years.

Get a PPI before you buy. Have them focus on determining actual miles. Seems to be a lot of speedo swapping going on lately in order to get low miles 930s.

See how easy it is to make your car a 20k car?

Let's hope this is not another case.

The car that I looked at has been dealer serviced the entire time with every record included, 2 owner car...2st owner since 1989. If they swapped the odometer, then they swapped everything else...I will post pics once I get it.

oh, btw...sorry to thread jack but i figure that it would help establish what's happening on the market today. I've kissed a few filthy frogs before I was able to find this car.

What year?

$60K seems like the going "ask" price for a 10/10 94 3.6 turbo.

For $60K it must be in pristine shape.....so that being the case, I take it you don't intend to drive it, but more or less keep it in the garage to look at? I paid top dollar for factory slant, and if I had it to do over, I probably would go for a similarly priced highly modded car from a reputable fellow who knows his stuff and invested a ton of money getting it right. If you're into an "investment", then you're never going to enjoy driving it....parking it where dust gets on it or eagle eyeing it while someone drives up next to it while you watch out the window of the restaurant you're having lunch at with your wife. That really pisses your lunch date off....when you have to get up and move it or go out to make sure it doesn't have a door dent. One fellow on Rennlist sold his pristine 930 factor slant and bought a Miata for that very reason. He just couldn't enjoy himself anymore. Either enjoy it, or stick it in a bubble and wait for the market to turn. You can either be a driver or a voyeur.

That is the kind of pricing that it takes to make a sale right now.

This is such a crazy environment that people simply aren't buying and if someone needs/wants to sell, they need to readjust their asking prices.

I've been dealing with sellers from all over the country over the last few months and I must say that my favorite line is "well, I don't need to really sell it". I am wondering if I "don't really need to sell" my B of A stock, will I get more money for it?

I am happy to "almost" be back in the Porsche ranks...I do have a Cayenne S but that hardly counts. Good luck to the OP finding that 89...it should be out there and the financial picture of this country is getting bleaker...more deals to come.

Lol. At least you understand the reality, friend, unlike so many out there.

Everything is the deal of a lifetime until next month when another shoe drops in this economy.

But you still appear to have a good deal on paper so what the heck, you only live once.
