Can I get some pics of what these bad boys (heater boxes) look like mounted in the car? I am gonna order a set of your stuff when I am back in the real world in October, and this is relevant to my interests. I would like to check em out from under / behind the car.
PS: YOUR GEAR LOOKS FANTASTIC! I know the first puddle I hit I am gonna be pissed about mucking them up. |
The set mounted on my mule motor (previous page) is pretty much what they look like on the car.
I mounted a new set on my car this morning. The headers on my car are the prototypes and not as refined as the ones being sold. I wanted to see how the exchangers handled an ill-fit situation. The hardened aluminum construction makes them very workable. One of my springs on these headers is in the wrong spot so I notched an area for it. Could also bend, mold, cut and grind to close the air gaps. Overall the modified fit is acceptable on these headers that they were not designed for. Next up is the connections to the air ducts. These boxes will stay on the car permanently to monitor how they they do over time. I live in northern Alabama where the winter is short but it still dips down near zero so these will be utilized. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1281815395.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1281815463.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1281815496.jpg |
Finished the heater tubes on the passenger's side. The production units will be bent to spec and relief cut so band clamps can be used to secure them.

Progress.
I built 5 sets of exchangers today on my mule motor. All in the northern hemisphere will have heat before winter. I apologize to the Aussies and other Sotherners who have endured a heatless winter. Of all the things I've done I thought this one would be simple. Better stick to the stuff I think is difficult, ha! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1282529103.jpg The test mule set is finished and on the road. I cracked open both banks running down the road in this 95* weather and daaaaayam, more heat was about the last thing this car needed today! It'll be a few more months before we can get a real test. In the mean time I'll be looking for any issues. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1282529330.jpg |
Brian your stuff is great! Well done.

Another sound clip, this is with a B&B dual outlet exhaust.

Any news on these great parts?
dyno sheets, heat exchanger experiences? Falk |
The heat exchangers have been revised from the pictures shown above. The pattern was off causing the gaps to be unacceptable. I revised the pattern and sent it to the CAD guy. A few are being bent up so I can verify fitment before we do a production run. I won't make that (expensive) mistake again.
All who have ordered exchangers will get the revised version. All who received the original exchangers will also get a set of the revised exchangers. |
Now, that's customer service. Brian, I commence you for standing behind your products 100%. I wish there are more businesses that would follow your lead.

Will this make the 965 version ready too?
|
I'm an enthusiast first and will not sell junk, even unwittingly. We stumbled pretty badly with the development time on these exchangers. It has been an agonizing string of delays. My car has a set of the original exchangers installed which did OK with temps in the 40's. I got up one morning before daylight to test them while the temps were in the 20's. Luke warm won't cut it so a revision was necessary. Winter is primo driving season in AL so this is hurting me as well.
Yes the 965 version will have the same exchangers. I still need to revise the waste gate pipe location so the stock tailpipes can be retained. Exchangers are #1 priority but out of my hands at the moment until I get those new stampings. |
Keep up the good work Brian :)
