Adding Turbo to 3.2 Euro Spec Motor Question?
I have done a lot of searching on the forum regarding information on adding a turbo set up on my Carrera. It has been extremely helpful.
I will most likely move forward with a system through Ben at M & K, as well as a Protomotive Chip. Are there any issues in running a typical 930 type system on a Euro Spec 10:3:1 compression motor? I know boost can be an issue. Do you think the valve guides will survive? My goal is 80 to 100 added horsepower. Thanks in advance. |
Hi
No actual experience. Will do it in the future. I jus want to wish you good luck and follow your progress. Jesper |

If you want to run more boost, you're in trouble. You'll need to decompress that motor for any more boost, but at 0.4 - 0.45bar boost, you'll reach your 80-100HP goal ;) |
Thank you for the help JMA-RUF, I'll discuss the details with Proto and won't run over .4-.45bar boost. I do want to relo the air condenser to make room for an IC.
This engine is in excellent running condition. I want the turbo and added HP, but was a bit nervous regarding running it safely with high compression and stock internals. |
I am not an expert but a USA 3.2 has a 9.5/1 compression ratio. Running 6 pounds of boost is like running 11/1 CR which is about at the limit of most street gas.
If a Euro 3.2 with 10.3/1 would have to keep boost down to about 2.5 lbs to achieve a comparable CR. Basically, it dose not make much sense to turbo a Euro 3.2 without changing out the pistons. A set of J&E turbo pistons should be about $1k. Your euro set has value for resale. With a 8/1 CR set you could run about 11 lbs of boost. |
