Pobably one of the most basic questions ever posted to this forum
 

I'm doing my first spark plug change and while I have them all replaced now I have had a hard time getting access to the drivers side front plug (number 6 I believe) due to the intake pipe and the hose for the heater(?). The difficulty in access and tight fit has made it hard to get a wrench in to torque that plug down properly. Do you guys have any tricks or tool tips you can pass on?

You really shouldn't torque to hard on the spark plugs, you should be able to thread it in all the way finger tight and then after it seats it just takes about a 1/4 turn to snug it in and collapse the crush washer. Also you should use the factory tool kit wrench, if you don't have one you should get one.

The origonal spark plug socket is definately the best I've used n them.
Just have to remove stuff like the intercooler, blow off housing and large hoses, air pump hoses and whatever else may still be there and in the way.
There's room to work around the heater hose, and the metal 930 intake pipe going to the turbo intake can stay.

Thats the #1 cylinder.

Thanks for the responses. I got it snugged with a combo of extensions and an elbow joint. I do have the factory plug wrench and found that real helpful on plug installation but the aftermarket socket I have (with a rubber insert) does a good job of not dropping a plug on the way out.

As far as tightness goes I was thinking that you needed to go more than hand tight. The factory spec is 18.5 ft-lbs

Think about the future, don't overtight them... snug + 1/4 turn is enough
