Rear Suspensions
I'd like to get some opinions on how completely eliminate the rear wheel hop that we are suffering whether it's on the race track or the street. On second gear and up the wheel hop is real bad. I have adjustable coil overs but none of the settings seems to really provide an effective solution.
Now the trick will be to address this department without breaking the bank ![]() ![]()

With that much HP, short of building up a 935 type rear suspension , wider wheels & tires.

What are your bushings, springs, shocks, and sways?
What is the orientation of the rear spring plates to the ground (downward, flat, up sloping to the hub)? What tires are your running? ![]() |

The 60-40 shocks in front allow weight transfer, as the front comes up weight is shifted to the rear… the shocks are stiffer on the return stroke (slow return)
The limiting straps help on the return after the car has launched the rear wants to come back up the straps stop this . Stiffer I mean stiff shocks and springs in rear stops squat Rear end flex is (at least in VW’s) the primary cause of wheel hop, solid motor/trans mounts . tie everything into the roll cage to make one unit . If you watch a car launch while the rear wheels are hopping you can see the engine hopping up and down ….You need to tie the motor down . Again I have Zero experience with drag racing 911 turbo’s . I have a 965 turbo and I don’t do hard street launches . here is a web page with some tech info on limiting straps http://mufflermike.com/motortech.html scroll down for pics more here http://mufflermike.com/ lots of other good info. Now this is a swing axle I dont know how much applies this guy helped me out with some set up : http://www.m-specmotorsports.com/ http://www.staggsracing.com/ and Ron lummis racing also try http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/ wheel hop will break things |
