Surely the move to 17's is inevitable for us all - it's just a matter of when...

My 3.2 finally got tired last month after 334k, so my car's getting a 3.6 conversion; I have a fresh set of 265's on the rear 9's so I'll get to see if the extra oomph suggests a move to (wider) 17's is desirable ahead of any XS supply issue... (not entirely sure any excuse wouldn't do...)

But +1 on loving this gift from the tire gods... couldn't Kuhmo at least keep the supply going thru December 21, 2012? If we make it through, a move to 17's would seem but a small gesture of appreciation, and they could hand down a new gift ;-)

Quick update.

Kept checking the UPS tracking number, always no info. and then it disappeared. Called Tire Rack, they said they had an "inventory problem." She transferred me over to sales.

He found the last 2 tires on the East Coast. One in CT and one in GA. They are shipping.

We then talked more about the nature of the size. He said:

Kumho is experiencing significant labor problems.

Tire Rack is showing next shipment of this tire (size) in July 2012.

He says that means it's being discontinued.

He did recommend talking with Kumho about this size and he mentioned 245/45/16s unprompted, as well. Reading between the lines, it sounds like people are asking for these.

How would be find other cars with this size tire? I would think if we got several forums interested, it would help in making sure supply lasts.

I did get the last 2. My car is super light, it will be 2100 # when these go on, so I'll get an honest 8-10K out of them. Have between now and then to get more made.

Wow the elsewhere forum reviews are all over the place on these Nexens! One says soft sidewall, another says firm, one says they suck in the wet, another says they are great... one says no good for spirited driving, another he's enjoyed many track days on them... one guy says they are quieter than UHP tires, but another says after blasting about he has chunks coming off... holy schmoly!

I hope you brave souls that got them will post your experiences with our cars...

Until one can afford some trick Fuchsy-looking or Fuchs-center-based 17-in wheels, at those prices they might be a great way to bridge the gap... errr... ...but maybe not!

I'll let ya know. Right now, I just want to drive my car, so I'm not real picky until I go to 17 or 18's.

Great Tim! I know what you mean, if the choice was to drive or not, I'd go with National Lampoon greenwalls! (Hat, dark shades, get windows tinted optional
The Nexens don't look half bad though...

Wow, that's admirable maturity! I'd be doing donuts in a parking lot to get to the cord so I could "justify" an earlier swap

wow, discontinued - that totally sucks

looks like I literally got one of the last pairs, I sent mine off to Toronto 2mos ago w/ a pair of new rears for the new owner, I'd picked them up @ the CT warehouse (7mi from my office). Fokkers were like 2bills each.

Didn't realize I got the last of 'em... sorry about that 8-).

Agreed on the 5-8k... that's about exactly how long mine lasted, down to near-slicks. A fun 5-8k at least!

I've got the nexens on my car, but I'm running 205/55 front and 225/45 rear. Big sidewall in front is a little flexy, but not too bad (had continental contisports previosly in same size, really liked but expensive and now discontinued). I had about 50 miles on the nexen then drove the 400 miles up the coast to Rennsport Reunion in oct. nice blast between 130-140 for about 15 miles before i came upon a cop - he gave me a half stink eye, then smirk before pulling off, but no vibrations, thumping or pulling. They were fun and very sure footed along highway 1. I was driving fairly aggressive, but I never felt out of control crazy, and passed lots of p cars, none of which even tried to stay with me. Jury is still out on the tires, seem to be wearing well, but no track duty for my car.

One more note, the nexens are a Korean tire supposedly one of the top 3 in Korea... According to my tire guy... Been going to him for all my cars for the last 10 years, hasn't done me wrong yet...
