ducktail 930

OK, I'm pretty certain I want a ducktail on my 930 at this point. Who has pictures, discussion of proper ducting/venting for stock intercooler, etc.?

TIA!

Here is paul's 934 replica... with ducktail.

Here is a pix of his engine bay. He is using a stock IC, which, believe it or not, will fit under the ducktail with some trimming of the edges.

He cut a little intake into the top of the ducktail to feed air

If u are not looking for mondo HP, this is ok, cause the stock IC sux and his car never made more than 360 or so by his own admission.

Option 'B' is 'Turboo934''s route, where he plumbed the IC through the fenders... very trick 'Ruf style'. See this thread, which shows all the plumbing in detail Cristine is going to get open heart surgry

A fellow Pelicanhead built this one. Intercooler was trimmed a little to make it fit.

***___UUUUUUFFFFFFFF___*** to both those iterations. UUUFFF, again.

The Guards car is particularly motivating IMO. Seen it 1-2x here before, quite titlating. The rocker decal is an astounding touch - much moreso than the reverse direction of 'that' concept on me local budz's 996GT2 that he just put the 997 rocker decal on. Jury's still out for me on that iteration - blk car mit PCCB's mit matching yellow belts but the yellow script is just off for me, in color hue and too modern a font for the 'era' of the car - ooops sorry I digress.

JFairman / Keith - dooo eeet... report back 8-)

ps. UUUUUUUFFFF again...

I've had mine ready to go for quite some time now. Tail lives with the rest of my stillborn projects on the "wall of dreams".
When I retire I'll have time to build one hell of a car!

LOL Paul! Dude, i swear u and my 7 month old speak the same language

Ducktails rule. It is the quintessential example of the (early) Porsche ethos of form adhering to function resulting in a timeless design. Every time i see one, i am amazed at how good they look on the 911, any 911. And the cool thing is how they worked.

I always thought a super wide RSR would look great with one.....hmmmm

The bigger the @ss the better it looks IMHO, I contemplated it when I was first selecting my tails but the IC was the determining factor on that one. If you don't want a huge aftermarket IC (or go with a turboKraft setup) - DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Keith, You are loo% right. I am dying to put a ducktail on my car. I want to talk to you about building a car for me. I really like what you do at Zuffenhaus. I have built many 911 rs replicas and currently look for 1970-1973 non-sunroof coupes to put in storage for later projects. Thanks, Tate

Too funny Brian, that rules you're queue'd up and ready down there. Awesome. Any idea on the weight differential betwixt the 2 units (somehow I suspect you do heh heh)? Love to go down 'that road'... someday.

Those look sweet that's for sure! Would a B&B intercooler fit under a duck?

Keith-

Did you put on a ducktail? Its been about a year. I'm looking to do the same on a C2 3.3L turbo..

Anyone try this before?

Thanks!

I love the look of a duck Tail.

I like the idea of an RS look car with a turbo hiding under the rear so it is more of a beast than it appears.

However, to me, a duck more belongs on a hot N/A motor car and even though it looks great, on a turbo it reduces it's pressence to that of a N/A look. (Same with a 3.8 tail.)

Again, fun - yes, looks great - yes, but it is then no longer a turbo by looking at it. It is a IROC look sleeper.

Now the 3.0 / 934 turbo tail seems proper.

Just a thought.

What are the options for the grill? I like the look of no tail at all even though it's not functional at higher speeds

When I put mine together, I thought I would have to make modifications to the intercooler. I had all the grinding tools lined up ready to hack. After I removed the rubber seal from the outer edge of the intercooler, I test-shut the decklid. It closed fine! No further modification.

Am I the only one here that doesn't get it? There are some cool tails out but a duck on a 930? What is the point? IMHO the original 76-77 were the best. What do I know though I have the 92S on mine.

Why the stock intercooler? I admit it will fit, but can you get the air to it? Given free reign, I'd build a water/air unit, tuck it in tight and run a small radiator and fan in one of the rear fender wells, maybe even something like the Kuehl AC condensor that sits behind the driver side rear wheel...I think it will fit unless you are using side mounted twin turbos.
