Remote Battery Disconnect
How about a new topic for a change? Install one of these and it won't matter if your timing is controlled via a single or double pot dizzy....she just won't start - period!
I like this approach vs. a hand-operated battery cutoff switch. Just a push button mounted wherever you choose and you can activate/deactivate the battery connection. For those of us fighting ghost current draws that run down the battery when off the charger, this might be nice. Or, a person can go with an electronic unit by PriorityStart! that will automatically disconnect your battery when it drops below 11.7 volts..but you don't get the benefit of manually disconnecting with that unit. Disclaimer: No affiliation with the manufacturer of these, just thought they were cool options to share. Intellitec 01-00055-000 Battery Disconnect provides a simple and safe means of remotely disconnecting batteries of an RV or boat. With a touch of a remote switch, the batteries will be completely disconnected, preventing unwanted drain when the RV or boat are put into storage. The heart of the system is a unique latching relay developed specifically for this purpose. While this relay is capable of carrying heavy currents, it requires NO power to stay open or closed. It only draws power during activation. The relay is sealed against the environments and is designed to withstand the shock and vibration experienced in the most severe RV or boat applications. ![]() PriorityStart monitors battery voltage and automatically disconnects any undesired drain on your battery as the voltage reduces, when the engine is not running. It is a battery disconnect switch. The disconnect threshold is factory set at 11.7 Volts. Just step on the brake pedal, operate the headlight switch, or any other electrical accessory and it automatically reconnects. ![]()

You can do that with a simple Ford starter solenoid and a locking pushbutton switch. I put one in my mom's car when I was a kid. The switch was in the cigarette lighter. Push the lighter in once to open the circuit, push again to close the circuit.
