Some mighty fine lookin' rears here - er - cars of course. Love some of the slotting iterations, gives it a real neat look back thar.

Hmmm, and here I was contemplating whether or not to buttplug me holes left from Double D Mastectomy aftermath (~ 7.5lbs ea. btw):

Nominal venting? 8-)

For those who've buttplug'd (the bumper holes!)... what'd you use / where'd you source? I check www.caplugs.com (or something to that effect) but they were somewhat pricey for stupid plugs so I've been running alfresco as the holes don't really bother me. Tho I would like to plug the 3 remaining from my ET Phone Home (CHMSL)-ectomy.

Anywho... fun thread.

krasuskyp. black bumper plugs, black IROC lic lights and a black rear frame would look dope.

If it is just cooling wanted w the TT, how about just taking bellows off the sides.

Juan / Mike - jah mon... literally, no joke! I say "~" as IIRC for some reason my scale had one weighing more like 8 and the other like 7.5. Go figger? But, they are most CERTAINLY *all of* 7.5lbs (as contestedly weighed on wifely's bathroom scale - d'oh).

And yes that's EACH. Fking 15lbs. swinging in da breeze at _the_ rear most portion of the car... unconcionable!

Not to mention... fookin hideous. Car looks soooooooo much better sans yes.

911st (one of these days I'll get yer name outta ya!)... hear what you're saying on the black plate surround. Seeing BKreigsr's ohsohot TCarrera ^above^ with one confirmed my suspicion that I 'need' one there - yep. I toy'd some with the plate light idea but in the end scrap'd the endeavor. F it, I'm runnin' nekkid. Dunno about the black plug suggestion tho, might look odd no?

How do you guys go about slotting your junk? DIY or farm it out? They all come out so nice and symmetrical like... diggin' it. I'll add it to my 'to do' list heh heh. Someday.

The giant US bumper boobs weigh at least 15 pounds per pair. I have removed a few sets working on exhaust systems. Solid rubber is heavy.

If you want to save weight, get rid of the front AND rear OEM impact style bumpers AND the OEM turbo tail... fit all FG replacements... you'll save HEAPS of weight!

No doubt, but there are much lighter and sexier alternatives to the factory turbo tail with that heavy weight rubber surround

I'd eventually like a GT2 one-piece tail for my car

mine was DIY with a drill, saber saw, and dremel. I have over 150 hours in that bumper (there's more slots, gills and cut-aways barely visible under the lights, and some lightening not visible), and another 80 in the valance.
YMMV
I created the design on an excel spreadsheet to insure it was somewhat symmetrical, printed it on an adhesive backed label, then peeled/stuck to the bumper.
With no intercooler on the '77, temps back there were running over 350-400 deg after a track session. Now the temps stay below 240 deg.

(no original parts were destroyed during this process, all came from donor parts (the euro bumper was Noah's)

EDIT: I hould have looked on page two for the answer....

Why not ditch the rubber strips as well? Leaves a cleaner look I think.

I agree on the clean look. However, I feel it contrasts then with the front bumper retaining said strips. And, sadly, I sorta kinda dig the rubber strips in a totally '80s way. Dunno, color me weird - all the black trim against the Guards just 'does it' for me I guess. 8-) On your black all this is likely less an issue I'd say.

Thanks for the reply Bill. Great temp delta data. 150/80!?!?!? CRYKIES! That's nutty. I've got a few clients with massive laser / plasma / water cutters, one's a major Pnut (997GT3/996GT3/built951/964, etc.) whom maybe I'll coerce into assisting me heh heh. We'll see.

I really dig the tapered / asymmetrical pattern you did. And Craig's circular motif rocks as well. Things that make you go Hmmmmm...

Here's my inexpensive solution to get rid of those 15pnds ! of fat. I will install a black screen in the inside of the hole.

What do you guys think ?

I think I like the one color bumpers with holes or slots and without the CF/Kevlar add ons.

Sorry...

What dose the car look like know or before the conversion? Any pics?

Are you more interested in 1- standing out, 2- doing a tribute to RUF, or 3-being stealth?

How about two or three simple 1.25" holes on the top of the bumper near the ends. The neg pressure area behind the car will pull heat out and at a light there will be a chimney effect that will vent heat.

Here is another idea:

I think this is the best custom bumper thread I've found so far despite it being five years old already.

Just adding my concept (yet to be built) example to the fold.

Also found this today in an adjacent part of the forum.
