Need help getting open engine lid

I changed the spring mechanism on the engine lid now I can`t open it up. The lid pop`s when I pull the lever but it seem`s like it is still locked down. Is there a way I can pop it up from the bottom? Thanks in advance. Tim

Sounds like the rod in the spring is not aligned properly in the hole. It is probably catching on the edge of the tapered piece at the end.

Maybe you could try shifting the lid front to back or left to right while it is "popped" to see if it releases.

Can you get a flashlight between the gap to get a better idea of what's happening?

Been there in a panic once. You can't get to it from below. My lid wouldn't pop up at all after I adjusted the spring catch too tight to draw the lid down a bit. Lots of searchs yielded only one solution: Grab the lid firmly on both sides of the tail in a bear hug, and proceed to torque that mutha back and forth sideways and front to back - while pulling up at the same time - with a much muscle as you can muster. Get physical, get mad, get pissed and wrastle that bugger for what it's worth.

Usually it's enough to jar where the latch is catching on one side or the other.
I have since installed an emergency wire from the latch along the inside behind the muffler and secured somewhere so it doesn't hang down. Used a length of coathanger. Should the cable to the lid ever fail, at least I'll be able to open the thing.

Make damn sure the post latch with the spring around it is straight as an arrow and not bent. Bent, and it will catch off-center. Good luck!
