Storing my 930 questions

I work over seas and park my car for 4 to 7 weeks at a time, its in a garage and heated during the winter but I'm concerned about internal corroision. How often should the car be started when I'm gone? Should it be brought up to operating temp? at idle or driving? Can I leave it un-started for 4 weeks and not have any long term problems. I assume that evan in dry climates there will be moisture in the engine as it cools, is that correct? Thanks

1) Stabil in the fuel.
2) Best if operating temps are reached while driving. If the only option is idle then that will do, but keep rpm's up around 2k or higher.
3) Anything over a month I would say start it in between.
4) Battery maintainer is essential

I store my 930 November to April no problem. I start it once or twice in between and get it up to operating temps.

Healthy run before and after storage 100+ miles

Fuel stabilizer with full tank & trickle charger of course wash and cover.
Should be all you need to do for a 6-9 month period.

I usually own on average 6 or more 930s over the last 10 + years. Also store others for like minded enthustiast. Come November put them away with low ( 1/4 or so )tank of gas without any additives like ethanol ( usually 110 race gas in the ones without converters), disconnect the battery clean & covered, keep the heat around 45 and don't lift the cover till it's nice out , usually late April. Some say put thick carpet under tires but they round out in a few miles if they are re inflated to spec. Clean oil is a good idea also. Reconnect the battery put in some good injector cleaner, drive out the old gas( spare fuel can in the car) and Walla on to the the next one ( this year there were 12 of them). All, as usual, no incident other than the need to ventilate the garage as some do get oil in the cylinders or past the turbo seal(s). this happens to different ones ( except for the very low miles ones which seem to be worse ) each year. So over the years I would guess you would need to live to way over 100 to have a bad thing happen if the car is well taken care of when not stored based on my experience. I think starting them without getting to operating temp and a spirited drive does more harm than good ( especially with a neophyte turning the key). They will start almost immediately so a good idea is pull the coil or fuse and crank it to get the oil P up some would say before lighting it up. As a matter of fact I just started the last one yesterday and just this evening got a few bugs off the window in preperation for a low key Import show. I drove it aroung 60 miles and did some boost adjustment ( lowered to .09 bar ) to compensate for the old fuel from last year. I will put in the fuel injector ( Chevron is really good ) with some pump premium before driving the 30 miles towards Elkhart Lake ( Road America area ) for some fresh 110 unleaded, then, turn the boost back to 1.1 or so.

4 to 8 weeks at a time should not required intensive prep. if the car is in good condition and kept in a garage at steady temps.

+1 on NOT cranking it in place = more harm than help. If you crank it, drive it until reaching oper temps and at least WOT to full boost - to clean heads, exhaust, turbo blades and get rid of condensation - before putting it back.
