starting problem
 

I have recently had my motor rebuilt. 1983 turbo. Before it started within two or three rotations, it now intermittently needs to be turned for about tens seconds with the accelerator floored, like it is flooded?? Otherwise it runs fine. It does not do this every time and only when the engine is warm. Does any one have a solution to this problem?? Thanks for your help.

does the motor spin fast enough to pull the sensor plate up? have you to tried jumpering the fuel pump so that once you her its on,would that help the starting? do you have and alarm system that could have a bad connection ? GB

It does spin over fast enough. I will check the fuel pump and I do have an alarm, an alpine alarm that was fitted to the car when new. I will check these connections. Thanks for your help.

The problem occurs only on hotstart?
bad fuel accumulator?

alot of installers don't solder there connection,the crimp the connections,over time that connection becomes the week link. you can by passing that alarm. GB

It's my understanding that pressing the gas pedal does no good on startup

I suspect my fuel accumulator accumulates no longer. Warm starts will just crank and crank and crank. Foot to floor and it starts on the 1st spin - EVERY time - for a year now.

If it's not supposed to do any good - it does for me. Beats an $$$ accumulator, for time being at least 8-).

Odd tho John that yours was fine prior to rebuild, now isn't. Either uncanny coinkidink for accumulator to start acting up right after rebuild, or, something else is awry.

leaving a bad accumulator in the engine is not so good, mine is also bad and needs some gas on warmstart, but after that the engine sounds like running on 4 or 5 cylinders and the mixture is pig-lean for a while at idle. this only happens if the car has been parked for +30minutes...

My '87 starts a bit slowly when engine is at op temp. Not something to worry about. A weak accumulator, leaky fuel line check valve (s), or leaking injectors come to mind as possible causes. The 930 Owner's Manual says to "floor it" when starting the engine HOT. Never tried this to see if it makes a difference, but Porsche says it for a reason. Don't know if this helps.
