930 newbie won a free book from Amazon. I need suggestions.
I'm the father of a newly acquired '87 930. :D (I'll post photos in a new thread at a later date).
I'm was given an Amazon gift certificate recently and I want to purchase some Porsche literature. I currently own Wayne's 101 book along with the Haynes book for 911's. I am planning on wrenching on my own vehicle so I'm wondering if a workshop manual is a good choice. Maybe I should purchase Wayne's book on Porsche engine modification / building? All suggestions are welcomed.. |
Paul Fere's Porsche 911 Story is both an interesting read about the development of the 911 and also a great technical reference for 911 mechancial specifications, including the 930.

Welcome HFR, You have the same year 930 as mine!
You already own good reading material so I have no suggestions for Amazon. I found I can always Google what I need (well now Bing it) to fix anything. Also there is a tremendous amount of knowledge on DIY in previous threads here on PP. |
No need for the workshop manuals if I own the Hanes book and use the Pelican site and fellow Pelican's for a reference then?

Another excellent read, that I learned about from people on this board, is Bruce Anderson's Porsche 911 Performance Handbook 1963-1998. The 3rd Edition is the most recent iteration and was just released this year. It is not 930 specific, but WOW, is it ever loaded with interesting and useful 911 info !!!

Do you have the Bentley (sp?) manual? That is much better than the Haynes to the point you only need the B manual, no Haynes.
Porsche 911 Performance handbook is great. It is a lot like Wayne's engine rebuilding book but has more in-depth documentation of the rarer 935 mods and performance modifications. |
Just received the latest book from Bruce Anderson via Amazon.....
Bruce Anderson Porsche 911 Performance or Corky Bell's book Maximum Boost Maximum Boost |
Another "must have" in my opinion is Bentley's Bosch Fuel Injection Management. Takes all of the mystery out of CIS.
