I think it's a cool looking car. Spiffed up, it would be nice to cruise around in.

Well... it's here - got dropped off for Project: Defibulation Sat. night. It's actually not as bad as I'd expected for a car sitting in a barn for 15+yrs - musty interior w/ some mouse poo, some paint pimpling, etc.

Took it for a burn to the gas station yesterday, boy I gotta tell ya - what a hoot the thing is to zip around in! It'd been quite some time since I'd driven a plain vanilla 911, man was I pleasantly surprised how torquey and smooth the svelt 3.0L is and loooove that smooth shifting 915 box. The intake / decel sounds are sonorous - and it's bone stock. Fun!

I def. normally don't like Targas (IMHO), just feel the back window ruins the proverbial "911" line. For some reason 'it' works on this car, something about the overall package, the stripes, the way it's so slammed - it just works. And after driving it w/ the top off - ahhh yes - I finally "get it". Still don't like the Targa lines nomrally, but at least now can appreciate them.

Story goes something to the extent of factory made (4) 930 Martini packaged cars in '77 (factory option coded stickers / interior with Fuhurmann seats), then (1) 930 & (1) Carrera 3.0 Targa (his car) for '78, then something like (2) 930s for '79. None imported to US. I've got a scanned Panorama from ~ '84 that featured this very car, but it's @ home. Had white center'd Fuchs at the time - IMO sets off the car verrrrry nicely, I'm on Ron to 'do this' heh heh. Guess PO was some attorney here in CT (wasn't FL as I thought), shop did oil change, soon ran dry, sat in another shop's storage while PO sued the oil change shop. Lost suit. Car sat, new shop got it under Mech. Lien, my buddy scored it like 18yrs. ago and recently pop'd in a used '78 3.0L and here we are.

Had me some pic fun Sat. night and yest. - I'm a dork who likes goofy pics of randomly staged cars, and I know I'd enjoy seeing wacky things like this posted here (sorry if ya don't).

*WARNING* The following can (and likely will) cause retinal damage. Feather that hair, pop in some Flock of Seagulls, bust out the wide collar, and hang on!:

Full pics here: http://picasaweb.google.com/pkrasusky/78Carrera30Martini#

I'll share more once it starts getting cleaned up.

stripes

Hi, having just gone over this thread again I've started to see that the interior makes sense in the overall context of the Martini color scheme. All the colors in the striping are represented inside. For those who initially said "horrible" ( I was one of them), look at it again with an open mind and maybe you'll change you opinion. I did.

It looks like this may be one of the 930 cars for sale in the UK. The interior is a little different but equally out there. Very cool and far from cheap.

Nice find willtel - thanks for sharing! The owner will be excited to see another one of these surfacing, and some further story detail.

Yeah Craig, them Fuhrmann seats are fersure nut sack coddling - they're wicked squishy squashy and I don't quite get the cushion placement. I heard somewhere they were like a $4k(!!!) option in '78... f'n *yikes* if that's the case!

It's on stands in my garage w/ all 4 brakes off for rebuild and new tires just mounted ready to put on. We re-dyed the sill caps and rear deck before I left for 2wks @ the beach (just returned), it's cleaning up nicely. I'll post up another update soon.

Here is another SC that was for sale in England although it doesn't have the Martini interior.

And a few shots of the Turbos together.

This thread was linked by a more recent one...just want to see any updates. Did you get the car back in nice shape?

Curious as to how someone runs the car out of oil in only 100km? Also, are you sure this is a 1978 model? They didn't make "3.0 Carreras" for model year '78...those were only for '76 and '77. The VIN should be able to tell you. The Martini kit could be ordered in '78, but that would make this car a '78 911SC, and the owner could have just added the 3.0 Carrera badge.

And yes, those Fuhrmann seats were $4k in 1978 dollars (!), hence they were very rarely ordered. A guy with a low mile '79 turbo had these seats, and that price was on the sticker! That's $13,000 seats in todays money...crazy stuff! What an interesting car with an interesting story.

Mernin!

Too funny this surfacing again. I am teh suk and never posted updates. We got the car 'finished' for my event here last August (die Vorlage //SFest). Finished meaning, it's cleaned up and back together - but it could use some more love certainly (love meaning moola). It's a driver that looks good in pics and from afar - just don't look too close 8-).

Regardless, it's a damn hoot to tool around in and just an all around really neat car. I'll have to ask him about the VIN / MY issue, it's not a US car tho.

He had a pic of it from the PO from back when it was imported in the early '80s showing it w/ white Fuch centers. I told him it looked neat, so he changed them from black to white - but he did the entire centers, so they're a bit - um - white. D'oh. Can always try again!

Here's some shots of it @ //SFest last summer. Will prob be there again 8/28 this year for anyone that's around and would like to join us.

Thanks for asking - enjoy!:
