Pink and Blue torsion bar colors?

I just bought a used set of original 930 rear t bars for my early car. One has pink and one has blue paint on it. Can someone tell me which is drivers side and which is passenger side? Thanks in advance!

I do not think it makes any difference. They are basically springs. If they are the same thickness they should be equivalent. - As far as I know - but I am not a torsion bar expert. Mine had yellow markings on them... I think the most important thing is to make sure they have no scratches or rust on them.

Last set I bought were new and they weren't colored, they both should have the same amount of splines. If you by a new set,I don't think there is a right and a left. GB

When they are new it doesn't make a difference. When using a used set you want to orient them the same as they were so that you aren't reversing the torquing direction that they are used to. Doing them opposite than they have been run in can cause premature breaking.

if they came from a 930, are you putting them in a 930 or an earlier porsche where you don't have as much tork. maybe it won't mater?

if the splines are worn then there won't be any play. its design is to fit snug.

They are going in a 1970 that Im restoring but upgraded the T bars to 26mm rear and 21mm front. Yes the motor and car will weigh less but they will still get a good workout

Yea, its not about play its about structurally twisting them opposite of the way they were broken in. Metal fatigue.

agreed with the metal fatigue comment. I wonder if that info is in the factory manual? As a side note, I just pulled my original 930 bars 2 days ago and there were no colors on them...?

Yes it matters, I'm glad you found the R & L stamping. They will snap in half if not properly installed. Ain't coffee & Patience great! Mark

Mark, I should have commented earlier. I didn't see the lettering on the ends when I looked in the box. I should have pulled them out and looked closer, but I was pretty sure they were stamped. Glad you figured it out.

I am no torsion bar expert but my 1983 930 has the right side (blue) and the left side (pink). I will be upgrading these to elephant racing bars very soon....
