Just Passed TX Emissions

My 1987 930 just passed the TX emissions testing process . . . I guess I am posting about it because, really, I am shocked that it did . . . less than 300 miles on engine overhaul, no CAT, no air injection system and no other emissions dodads at all . . . and it wasn't even close to failing !!!!

What a relief !!!!!!!!

I'm not suprised it passed, as these cars can be tuned to run very efficiently even without all the doo-dads. What suprises me is that they didn't just slam the lid when seeing that all the emissions crap was gone.

I sure don't miss those days back when I lived in larger metro areas. One of the benefits of living in small town USA now.

I was suprised regarding the "visual inspection" as well, however, the tech that tested my car was so unfamiliar with 911/930s that he did not even know that the engine was in the back !!!!!

Mine's old enough to not get tail pipe tested, but last year I took it to a regular inspection place and not my regular shop. After it passed, I mentioned I was surprised and the guy said old cars pass a lot more than people expect. I started to say something about it being a hotrod and he pretty much told me to shut-up and quit talking :D

Mine too... and he had that attitude like he was going to find something wrong, regardless. He used mirrors, flashlights, crawled under and over.... and still missed a bunch of disconnected stuff. Bonehead.

I put maybe 1,000 miles on my car each year. The average cow passes more noxious gas into the atmosphere than does my 930. Don't get me started...

Can you say MOOOOOO! Let's talk about methane....the stuff might burn pretty well in our cars. Just think, a cow in every backyard of America and a pile of cow doo just fermenting away.

South Carolina doesn't have any inspections.

And it's a good thing, cuz I don't have anything on my car, but a zork tube. :D

Florida has no inspections either.

They did for a while in the 90's but the large majority of cars here are new and they were all passing and lots of peolple complained it was a revenue collecting scam which it was, so surprisingly.. the state ditched all that crap a long time ago.

The bozo's running those drive through emission stations were here today~gone tomorrow uneducated rock apes with no clue what they were doing anyway.

These big city Texas boys must still be getting tested. Out here in the hinterlands there is no such thing.

The only visual inspection we have in GA is the tech looking for a cat on the exhaust system. When I had my car tested last year the inspector used a mirror on a stick to look under the passenger compartment and checked it off as ok, I'm not sure what he saw but it worked for me.

On the trip to get my car get tested this past Monday it refused to stay in first gear when the car starts making torque. Looks like I have bigger issues to worry about than a sniffer test...
