That's the live action Wangan Midnight. The anime is much better, but like Initial D, very unrealistic. The S30Z is kind of like Christine. Has a mind of its own, causes others to become obsessed with it, kills drivers that it doesn't like. In the same scene in the anime, the Devil Z pulls ahead of the Blackbird before the construction zone, but when Akio turns to change lanes, the car won't turn.

Agreed..the animated version is way better! A great movie. Ironically I own both cars and my Datsun is faster than the 930

I like how a N/A 2 liter L20 powered Fairlady S30 runs doorhandle to doorhandle with a 930. And that when it crashes it turns into a S110 200sx with some 1/4 window bondo (maybe?) in the wreck footage.

I have had 2 Datsun 240Zs and they were great fun cars, loved them... But a 930 is in a different universe, performance wise.

This is true. The wangan line is a very straight stretch on a series of high price toll roads in the Tokyo area. These toll roads were intended to relieve local traffic from delivery trucks. So they built these high end highways, but charged ludicrous tolls to drive on them. These tolls were too expensive for average drivers, but cheaper than race track fees. So locals started high speed racing on them. During the 90's through the early 2000's, you saw many high powered, turbo charged cars breaking 300kph racing each other on active roads. The midnight club was a famous club that raced on the Wangan.

In Wangan Midnight, the Devil Z has an L28 that is bored and stroked to 3.1L, twin turbocharged, and has a cross flow head with over 600hp. And it has a will of its own, always wanting to win. In one race, it continues to race even though its clutch is gone.

I just think it's funny that they shift so many times in a v-max race. It's like Fast and Furious.
