Need Help: My Turbo is toast!
I Was driving the other night and lost boost.
So I tore it apart and the turbo (factory) doesn't spin very well and the tolerances are bad. SO: I have to replace it. Questions: 1. Which turbo do I replace it with? I want a bolt on standard turbo - nothing exotic or performance oriented but it doesn't have to be factory. That being said, I know the new turbo's spool faster etc. I assume this is a K-27 but I know there are different versions. What is the best source/vendor? How much tuning is involved with tuning the CIS to the new turbo? 2. What are the "while you are in there" issues? Should I replace the Turbocharger Oil Pump? Rebuild the wastegate? What else do I need to consider? Thanks, Jeb 79 Euro 930 |
Well I dont know the condition of the rest of the parts, but...
I would check the turbo scavange pump and make sure it pumps well and as for the waste gate, if it aint broke dont fix it. I would go to Brian (Rarlyl8) for the turbo weather it be a stocker or K-27- he is a good vender. Converting to a k-27 isnt rocket science either. |
If you go with a K27 vs. the stock 3LDZ, you'll want one of these:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/490489-fs-k27-o-ring-charge-pipe-adaptor.html?highlight=k27 It will allow you to couple the bottom end of the aluminum air pipe to the turbo. |
As for a source/vendor, try contacting TurboKraft. Chris was a pleasure to deal with.

I have a freshly rebuilt K27s
This is from Ultimate Motorwerks. My turbo (at 800 miles) blue a seal because my scavenge pump was not working properly. I ended up rebuilding the motor and putting the stock exhaust (sold my headers), 3LDZ turbo and IC back on.
I have the K27S and Blown-Six IC for sale if interested. PM for details. I included a picture of when it was on my car with the headers. It cost me $650 to rebuild and it has zero miles on since. I have all the paperwork if needed. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1252175913.jpg Best of luck in the search, Bryan |
Did the wheels rub on the housing? If not, why not rebuild it? New and reman wheels, shafts and bearings are available.
