Mystery RUF on ebay
Gents,
I saw this 930 based RUF on ebay a while ago, saved the pictures but not any information about the car in the description. That pearl white color is amazing. Does anyone know more about this car? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I don't see a single "ruf" thing about that car except the decal on the hood and wheels.
I could be wrong but that looks like a totally normal Euro 930. |

It does have the dual twin tip RUF muffler... I like it.

Might be authentic, definitely has some Ruf bits on it. The black Ruf wheels make the car look a little strange. It does have the proper exhaust and right bumper extension. The bumper extension for the twin tip exhaust was somewhat rare. This could also just mean the owner simply purchased these parts from Ruf. The front valance is period correct for the 80's BTR era.

I agree with DDDD. It has some Ruf bits but this looks like a 930 with Ruf parts. I don't believe that Ruf used a car with 930 flares and stock mirrors.

Looks like an early 80's BTR to me. The narrow body stuff really only came into its own with the CTR Yellowbird. Before that Ruf took any 911 and modified it, Turbo or not. But the BTR was a modified Turbo with 374 hp from 3.4 98mm conversion, bigger turbo and intercooler, as well as an increase in boost, Ruf 5-speed, 4-pipe muffler, assorted suspension and interior bits, BTR front airdam, etc. The normal mirrors were flag mirrors on BTR's and I believe the cars came with the extended rockers(every picture of a BTR I have ever seen had them). But don't forget that Ruf would do anything you paid him to do. Your bankbook was the limit. And there were probably a lot more conversions done by Ruf, than original manufactured cars. So even the VIN would not be an accurate gauge. Original documentation from Ruf would be the only way to know for sure.

While this doesn't answer the OP's question... a couple real BTR's.

It looks pretty similar to the green cab with the black on the bumpers. I remembered this car having an iridescent pearl paint which looked amazing in contrast to the black bits, especially the wheels. Anyone know of an airdam that is similar to the one pictured... or even the one pictured...? |

It looks like there is some kind of crack/chip at the bottom driver side of that front spoiler, although it is hard to tell from the photo.
There is a slight gap under the hood. Last edited by DDDD; 09-10-2009 at 04:04 AM.. |
