Fried my O2 sensor
 

My AFR gauge started going nuts on Monday so investigating the trouble codes of the Innovate LC-1 suggested the sensor was fried. This was only a 2 year old sensor so I figured it was the heat stress of the turbo. Innovate recommends a heat sink and shows a copper heat sink in the manual. They also sell a stand-off heat sink for $90 but this seemed excessive. I investigated 14g copper sheet at our local suppler who wanted >$50 for a 12"x16" sheet and would not cut it down for me so I went and investigated the local metal recycler. I could not find an appropriate size sheet or plate but did find plenty of 2" copper pipe so purchased a scrap piece for $4.00. I simply cut it longitudinally and then hammered flat. Innovate had a new sensor to me in less than 48 hours and so it is back in the car in less than 3 days. I don't know how effective this will be as there does not appear to be much room for airflow but we'll give it a shot.

The issue may be wear you have it mounted. Gets too damn hot that close to the turbo, but if you didn't have the heat sink prior to the failure, what you've built will probably help extend the life of your new sensor.

I installed mine as close to the muffler as I could at the exit end....so it's about 10" from the end of the tail pipe. Works just fine in that location, with the only risk that the AFR's might read a little high at idle due to phantom ambient air entering the tail pipe. But I really haven't noticed that as a problem. Who cares....our reason for monitoring AFR's has nothing to do with idle.

I've had issues with mine as well, but it's a tight fit between the turbo and muffler. Not much more on the zork either. Built a heat sink out of sheet metal (what I had on hand), but no conclusive info. Since I want to rotate the bung to the 12:00 position, I might move it to the outlet side of the muffler, but since it's an inlet/outlet one side of the muffler (B&B), I don't know how that might work.

I ordered a new sensor bung at the same time as the new sensor with the thought that I would mount it downstream of the muffler if this failed quickly. The muffler is one of Brian's (RarlyL8) which came with the bung in this location.
