Up Shifting
Is it bad for the transmission to upshift from 2nd to 4th in a 4sp 930? I've done this couple times today when I boost hard in 2nd gear from around 30 mph up to 80 mph or so. My transmission did not give me any problems but want to know from experienced 930 owners whether this is OK or a no-no.
What do you guys do when you hit boost in 2nd then let off at highway cruising speed (70-80mph)? Keep in mind that my '87 930 has shortened 2nd thru 4th gears.

Probably no harm and if you use 3rd a lot like I do, it might help it live longer.

The only way it would not be good for the engine, for example, is if you run second up, then when you grab fourth your RPM's were to drop down under 2800 or so, then you hit it hard at that level in 4th. That would really put a load on the engine. But in your case your hitting second up to 70ish then just going 4th to cruise, which is really no problem.
Like Jim said, I use 3rd alot to cruise at 3-4k rpm. I try to never run the car under about 2700-2900 cruising.
