AC Belt Removal

Does anyone know how much horsepower might be gained by removing AC belt? '86 930. I never use AC, and know it is probably taking some horsepower . Also, any damage to compressor leaving it sit idle with no belt?

Not sure how much HP it takes to spin the AC, but when it's not engaged, it's free wheeling. Regardless, I used to remove my AC belt at the track, then just cut it off one day when I didn't have time. Never re-installed it.

To keep the system working properly, it would probably be best to use once a week for a short period, even in the winter to keep all the seals, etc. in good shape.

If you don't intend to use it, then take the entire darn boat anchor outa there. Save some pounds, gain miniscule mpg and performance. Or, just enjoy easier access to the engine.
