996 Turbo and 997 Turbo share the same powerplant?

The 996 Turbo introduced the water-cooled 3.6-liter. The 997 Turbo also had a water-cooled 3.6-liter (with a bit more power). Are they the same block/engine?

For 2010, Porsche has completely re-designed the powerplant with a direct-injected 3.8-liter (based on the new Carrera S engine)... so I know that is a different engine.

IIRC the MK1 997 Turbo is the same GT1 based block as the 996 Turbo, as well as the GT3's and GT2's from the 996 and MK1 997 Era.
The brand new MK2 997 Turbo is a new/different block.
Correct me if I am wrong!
