Seems normal on the road I average 11.0MPG with IA fuel head.

The track norm for me is 6-8 MPG.

12-15mpg on the highway is not abnormal if you have a stock WUR. With tuning an adjustable WUR will bump highway driving to 21-24mpg and city driving to 13-15mpg depending on mods.

Thats about what I get with all around driving too.

On the highway at steady speeds around 70mph near sea level you should be able to get around 20-22 mpg if it isn't running too rich.

They weren't made for fuel economy, but aren't bad on the highway.

If you are traveling 80+/- mph on the freeway, I don't see any reason not to be in fourth gear. I have made a number of 450 mile freeway runs in fourth gear without any lugging at about 85 mph and was getting 23 mpg.

I have gotten as high as 27-28 at between 75-90 mph on certain parts of my drive from Monterey CA to Milwaukee with a stock 1979 930. I was surprised as I was not really trying to get good MPG.

Also on the cool down,if I'm driving slow 15 -20mph does that do the same as idle for a few
min. before turning off ?

I get about 20 mph on cruise. Probably would be a little better if my rear tires weren't all worn out. Could get even better if I were to run at stoichiometric 14.7 AFR, but she doesn't like to run quite that lean (closer to 14 + a couple tenths).

Why wouldn't you shift into 4th at highway speeds??? I'm a little confused.

BTW: I have such low gearing and small diameter tires, that at 3,500 rpm, I'm going 70 MPH in 4th gear!!

My old 88 was dead stock and that used to get about 16-18 on the highway. My 86 gets about the same as the 88 did, but it has significantly more mods and runs pig rich (still need to tune this thing), go figure?

Reading all this was a good confirmation. When I pump fuel I just x10 every gallon going in and put in and know the range I'll get. I usually factor in the likely street/hwy mix, figuring 10 street 16-18hwy (depending on traffic / mood). Track worse.

turboPALOOZA 2300mi trip saw some surprisingly 'better' mileage than I'd expected, considering shenanigans / debauchery

So 12's an all-round good #.

Oh this is on my exhaust/intake'd stocker '87 with 165lb Jenny Craig and a more than a few screwz loose (missing?) behindst der wheel.

On average I get I'd say 19 mpg in my 1992 turbo. That includes highway miles and some around town.

Of course I have a 5 speed, so I don't what kind of a difference that makes. Probably not as much as the elevation. Most of my driving is around 5,000 above sea level. I have some mods as well.

Quite a range of responses. I've taken my 89 on several lengthy trips. I typically cruise at 85+ and have never been below 20mpg... more typically 23.
