how do you know it is a k27S? Since the ID plate says k27 only.
Also, people mention k27-7200 and k27HFS alot on the forum but not alot of mention of k27S, how does someone know the difference visually between these units?

The compressor wheel inducer blades are visibly different from the "HFS". That one looks like a UMW "S" from the pictures I've seen.

Other than that you can take his word for it.
The dab of green paint on the compressor wheel nut is the same color UMW uses so it looks like it was rebuilt there.

It is my understanding that the K27"S" uses the same wheels as the K27 7200 albeit with a newly casted compressor housing for tighter cleances and the use of a venturied 3" compressor inlet wherein the K27 7200 inlet is 2.75 inches. This looks to be the case as the turbo for sale has different wheels than the HFS and clearly has a venturied 3" compressor inlet...

Now there are some good explanations. Thanks for the info.
Dont get me wrong, my question was not to cast doubt on what Bryan was selling, just that I am uneducated in the way to visually distinguish between all the various turbos out there. It doesn't help when the name plate does not designate the turbo properly either.

Plus I think some people call the same turbo by different names possibly which adds to confusion. UMW website has pictures of turbos that seem inconsistent with descriptions I have seen other places.

Thanks

Man, I leave for a day and look what happens. I appreciate all of your clarifications on the turbo. It is an "S" model and is fully rebuilt with only 800 miles prior to that. My scavenge pump was the culprit as mentioned in my FS ad.

I think all the questions have been cleared up and I did not think that fredmeister was in anyway insinuating that I was selling a bogus turbo.

I have one interested party so it may be sold. Will keep the 930 guys posted.

Thanks,
Bryan

I carry these turbos.
The turbo on the left is an HF, on the right is an S.
The easiest wasy to distinguish them is the thickness of the inlet housing. The S is machined in a cone that opens up the ID.

A real cheep price for a nice turbo that is a direct bolt on for a lot of cars. It won't last long.

Forgive my ignorance, but what do the holes on the one on left do?

Alright boys calm down.

Yes, I have purchased another car. It is a cherry 1975 all original with no rust 914 2.0. Here are a few pics. The 930 is sitting under the cover right now but not forgotten.

Bryan
