Touché Ken.

According to this map (circa 2007)...Jersey looks a little better than Florida. To be fair, it looks as if Florida's weight problem centers around Orlando, and the panhandle (if I have my geography correct). The beach areas of South Florida are the same color as the NYC metro...so we're even there

Looks like more recent data (2008) has Jersey and Florida nearly neck and neck with 24.0% and 24.4% obesity rates, respectively.

Whoa fellas, you know a thread's in trouble whe u start seeing this stuff! LOL

Finally got back late last nite from some extended R+R in SoFla, and thanks to all of u that showed up to make it a great weekend! It was great finally meeting everyone in person, and glad that the track nite and Sat was such a success (for some such as Ken, more so than others!)

Juan, great to finally connect with both you and Bello. Like many here, u guys have kept the turbo flat-6 'Horsepower Junkie' flame alive for quite some time, and it was a honor to meet up.

Ken and Darren, you guys rock... just wish i could have met up at the track Friday nite as well, but my car had other plans.

While Gabe obviously couldn't make it, he sent a shout out in spirit, as both he and everyone at Zuff were (and still are) working furiously away on the Blackbird in final preparation. Gabe says that the bodywork and rockers are finished and words cannot do justice to how incredible she looks... stay tuned for some pix shortly.

Sorry that you guys ran into the monsoon at the end of the day... you should have stayed for a while with Frank and myself at Bradley's, but then you wouldn't have gotten up until noon the next day, LOL. As for how Sat nite turned out, let's just say it was the good, bad and the ugly... right Frank?

Some of my pix from Sat

Proud papa Ruiz and his juggernaut and the crowd checking old-skool

1200+hp air cooled flat-6 with it's lord and master... any questions??

Other machinery that caught my eye

Turbo F40... can u ever have too much HP???

Like Raquel Welch and Jane Seymour, over 30 and still dead sexy...

Can u say BADD AZZ?

Special thanks goes out to Jim Fairman, who was able to finagle permission to do a personal, last minute tour of Gunnar racing yesterday, where he once worked. While way too brief (my girlfriend and i had to leave for our flight soon after) if was quite incredible to catch a glimpse of one of (if not THE) premier vintage racing Porsche resto shops in the world. And if restoring isn't time consuming enough, they run a full time race team as well!!

Ever wondered what our good man JFairman looks like... well now ya know. Grinning in front of what looks like a 906 motor ready for install

And what can we interest you in today, good sir? An unobtanium crank? Vintage racing poster? How about a fully rebuilt 934/5 motor?

Another pile of never ending unobtanium

Clean room where meticulous restorations take place... and vintage racing posters lining the walls everywhere.

The museum... an incredible assortment of cars in a relatively small space

Remember this car?

Well, this is what it was 'restored' back too... the orignal Martini RSR which is probably my fav 911 of all time

And then it was on to the restoration and race prep shop... the guys at Gunnar are all biziness... i felt like is was in the way just being there. Gunnar Jennette is not just the owner, he was busy laying fiberglass for what looked like seat or fender shell. All i snapped was this shot of my second fav 911, an RSR in prep.

And then i wuz time to skiddadle... what a short but very sweet tour. Thanks Jim!

One of the highlights for me of this past weekend was finally meeting two of the masters in this turbo flat-6 hp quest we play, Juan Ruiz and Eddie Bello. Both have been in it for a considerable time, and are both an incredible wealth of knowledge acquired in the tried and true hot rodding tradition of running hard, blowing stuff up, then figuring out what happened.

I had the added pleasure of being able to visit Bello's shop in Pompano Beach early yesterday morning, and talking with him about what he does and how he does it. A quiet, but subtly passionate intensity emanates from Bello when he discusses the fundamentals of obtaining power from these motors. As someone who controls every single variable by a meticulous and unwavering application of proven performance techniques such as better flow, better injecting, more effecient headers, and perfect tuning, he has been able to get more out of these already great engines than anyone else.

There was a cracked head sitting on a 50 gallon drum of racing fuel in the corner of his shop. This was a good example of how Bello works... instead of just discarding the cracked head, he cut it in two for autopsy and analysis, and then realized how much more porting and flowing of the inlets he could do. Bello is simply relentless in his persuit of perfecting these motors for horsepower gains.

From the sound of it, he has a lot more great stuff planned for the future. Juan, i for one can't wait to see what u guys have up your respective sleeves next! Once again, great meeting you two and make us proud March 14th!!!

Hey Justin, It was good seeing you again and I'm glad you got to see the Gunnar Racing shop.

One little detail, you met Kevin Jeanette.
He's the creator and owner of the whole place and his son's name is Gunnar Jeanette.
Gunnar is a professional race driver in the American LeMans Series.
When I was working there in the mid eightee's Gunnar was around 4 or 5 years old and tearing up the parking lot on his "Big Wheel" tricycle.

I don't know where the small pic of the #7 car came from but it's from a while ago. The grey truck with marroon stripe behind the car is the old Gunnar Racing transporter. You can see part of the Gunnar name in the stripe on the side of the cab just above the roof of the car.

fun weekend for sure...
