Porsche authenticity

How does one go about getting documentation or reliable information on the original factory options for a particular car. I've seen certificates as part of documentation for cars for sale, how long does it take to get these and does the owner need to request or can just anybody?

Some help and suggestions are appreciated.

go here for the form:

Certificate of Authenticity - Owner Services - Porsche Service - Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG

I've seen several of these with missing information. You used to be able to order a copy of the factory kardex (sp?) which was the orignial build sheet for the car. They no longer give that out.

If you spend the $100+ on a COA and it's got incorrect information, how are you supposed to know? IMO it's fairly worthless.

Do you have a sticker under the front hood listing options codes?
