Muffler Question

I currently have B&B muffler and headers installed on my '91 turbo and I find it too noisy.
  • Can I install the stock muffler along with the B&B headers?
  • How much power would I loose?
  • Will the stock muffler increase turbo lag?

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can use the stock muffler with the b&b headers and should not lose a whole hell of a lot of spool or power. However, If you want to keep the performance optimal, I would not put the catalist back on (on a race car of course...) because this will create more lag and power loss. Get a cat-bypass pipe and use it with the stock muffler, that should quite her down a little and keep your current performance. You can also put the wastegate muffler back on, but why?

My thoughts as well. The muffler is not as big a restriction as the catalytic converter on the C2T. I'm working on a production model of my own for the 965 to replace both cats and the muffler while retaining the stock tailpipes.

is this also valid on a 79? i have headers with a B+B dual out muffler and i want to go back to a more stock look with a single out muffler.

The catalytic converter did not appear until '86 in the US. The exhaust system for the 965 is very different than that of the 930. Both benefit greatly by replacing the entire cat/muffler assembly with a free flowing muffler.
The '78/9 will also benefit greatly by replacing the stock muffler with a straight-thru free flowing muffler. Baffled or chambered mufflers are not the best for a turbocharged application as the turbo requires an unimpeded exit with the least amount of back pressure.
If your present muffler is baffled or chambered you will see gains with one that is straight-thru. Our host carries at least one brand of straight-thru stock exit 930 muffler.
