Transmission problems

Similar to what another member posted I was moving the car from one spot to another and must not have had reverse fully notched in. Now first gear feels like the slot is much larger and I have no reverse. Sorry if this is a repost but could it just be linkage moved or did I most likely break something big? It isn't like it goes into reverse and doesn't move, there is no resistance to the left when you try for reverse.

Thanks guys,
mike

Yours sounds like the coupler moved and just needs to be repositioned correctly.

The other current thread - the guy missed 3rd gear and had it partially selected so the synchro was being compressed and trying to match the gearset speed to the shaft speed so they could engage smoothly and the selector teeth on the slider and gearset were bouncing over each other grinding themselves under full throttle and he probably destroyed the 3rd gear synchro or selector teeth on the slider and gearset doing it.

Do a search on gearshift coupler and you'll find threads on how to re set the coupler correctly.
It takes patience and maybe trial and error till you get it right.
The easy part is the lower half of the shift rod before it bends back should be straight up vertical while the transmission is in nuetral.
The side to side part of the "H" adjustment can be the tricky part or you may get it right the first time.

Thanks a lot. I'll check those posts out and see how it goes every other gear is in the right spot it jut feels like the whole assembly rotated counter clockwise so that when you go for reverse you can't go left enough to get it.

What JFairman said...
That definitely sounds like an external linkage problem.
