Gear Selection

I have asked this question before but I'm trying again to pick some people brains up

We are going to open my engine next week for the first time in 5 1/2 years to make an inspection and to make some changes at the same time I want to go into the Gear box and change the 5th Gear to something that will allow me to go 200+ on the mile, so my questions are

1- Who sells these gears for under $900.00

2- Which Gear ratio you think will be the most suitable

3- Any other recommendations?

It's a 1988 911 Carrera with a G 50 Box

We are all ears, so let my fellow E Racer shine

Juan a rear wheel change would also increase your final drive ratio. I built a car years back to compete in the Silver State Classic. I end up running 18" wheels for that application to give me a taller final drive. If you would possibly run a 20" wheel your roll out would net you a higher top speed without a gear change.

Call Mike at JB Racing and or Patrick Motorsports for the gear changes.

Unfortunately, cheap doesn't fit into wheels and tires or the Trans axle! I wish it was easier. If not try to find a higher aspect ratio tire that will fit you existing wheels. If you are running a 285/30/18 you can look for a 285/35 or a 285/40 to get an inch more height gaining you some more top end.

Juan,

Do some research on which ratios have been used in the various G50 boxes over the years, and look for a box that has the tallest top gear, or perhaps a taller R&P. I've done the same for my 901 and 915 boxes. You'd be surprised at the variety of gears you can come up with without spending anywhere near $900 for a gearset! Good luck with your project.
