Catching on fire in exhaust system! HELP!?
Repeatedly my fresh rebuild 930 w/ new turbo and cleaned out injectors...IS CATCHING FIRE~!
Right in the exhaust system, the flames aRE SHOOTING OUT OF THE HEATSHIELDS FOR THE COLLECTORS...THE HEATER BOXES, ****in flames!!! I just burnt the **** out of my arm and palm, and came within seconds of losing the car....I'M JUST ABOUT DONE PLAYING WITH AIR COOLED ASS DRAGGERS.

Lead tech here says it was oil pooling from valve cover service we just completed.....that makes sense.I'm cutting off the shields , and trying again. guess I need a performance exhaust now

Had that happen on an early car.
I removed the conections from the cooling fan to the HE's and I removed the conection from the HE's to the car. Then I squirted dish soap in the HE's and ran a hose in them severl times to flush out as much oil as possable. Latter drove the car to a coin op car wash and sprayed soap and watter through them. Then after a little driving with the HE still disconected, it mostly burned off. Of course, removing the HE's and running them through a parts washer is a safer and better idea. |
