I'm new to site, new car to me is 81 911 sc, the idle races up and then goes down, back a nd forth from 2000 to 400, might or might not stay runningworse cold but still does it when warmed up, have read it may be idle control valve, is ther a way to check it and is it hard to remove and clean? advice ? thanks

There is no stepper motor operated idle control valve on CIS.
Motronic efi uses those.

Oscillating idle speed is usually caused by a rich idle mixture and thats adjustable with a 3mm allen wrench next to the fuel distributor. Turn it left for lean and then right for rich till it runs nice and smooth without surging up and down or dropping in revs after blipping the throttle.

Also this is the turbo forum so you'll get more people with 911 SC's reading your post on the 911 tech forum.
