Imagine Auto RSR Coilover Setup
A few years ago I picked up Stephen's RSR setup for my 930. Just found out during a tech inspection that one of my front strut inserts needs to be replaced. Do any of you have the same setup and know the part number? My concern is that they were likely custom valved and am unsure how to track down the correct, matching, replacement insert.
Thanks! |
Have you tried to contact/PM Stephan? I know he's out of biz, but...
I did... sent an email yesterday without a response. Somewhat impatient only because I'm supposed to be at the track next Friday.
Rob, if they are custom-valved your best bet is going to be to send them to Bilstein in Poway (San Diego) or you might chat up Jae Lee at Mirage Intl. Maybe he can get it done quicker as he does a lot of work with Bilstein. Mine were custom valved by Jae/Bilstein but in customary fashion the custom valving specs stamped into the housing have been ground off.
Rob send me pictures of the strut, we used a couple different options . I was the lead tech there. dockarl at wilen.us

Thanks Doc... just spoke with the shop and it actually now looks as though it isn't the insert itself but the internal 'sleeve' (probably not the technical term). Insert and houseing apparently both look good.

All of Imagine Auto's suspension came from Rebel Racing and Tarrett, just get in touch with Clint at Rebel and he'll sort it out for you

Some of the parts had Tarrett stickers on, i guess Rebel must get some stuff from Tarrett then, and they came in that way. I bought my RSR stuff through IA too, so was just saying
Lol, interesting i never saw those stickers. Wouldn't surprise me. There is always 4 middlemen in the porsche business.
Clint sells Ira's stuff like sway bars and monoballs. The struts and coil-over stuff he does himself to the best of my knowledge.
I bought the same setup from Stephen.......it came from Clint at Rebel. I would call him and let him know about the problem....certainly he is capable of resolving the issue.

Yep, I dont thing IA made too much of their own stuff..... Alot of Ira's stuff (tarett) is re branded or ripped off.
Cheers |
I'll ask Clint when I see him tomorrow if you send me an email with your name and a little more specific desdription of your problem.
I can't remember the name but there is a shock house at Infineon that could rebuild it for you. That is the best route since they replace seals + shafts but will retain the valving.
I talked to Clint today. I told him your issue and asked him to email you. He thinks what the mechanic is talking about are the "linear bushings" which are a split-sleeve like piece of metal with Teflon on the inside.
Clint has the bushings and offers both a rebuilding and revalving service. The price is better than through Bilstein- Bilstein buys their parts from a third-party supplier. Let me know if you do not hear from him by Monday evening. Can you post a photo of the strut to see if it is, in fact, sourced originally from RSR Products? |
Thanks... I also just sent Clint's contact info to the shop as well. I'll post a pic once I get it (shop/car are in Chicago and I'm in Cali)
I would suggest James Patrick at Patrick MS. He is likely to have replacement inserts in stock. If not, he has an SSF account who carries several Bilstien valving options. He also stocks the true originals, MODE Monoball camber plates and spring hardware.
