Bruni,

What check valve are you referring to. What year, type is your car. If your talking about the fuel pump check valve it's part of the fuel pump fitting.

maybe you are talking about the famous round ball in the temp sending unit, located at the right rear?

thats the oil pressure idiot light sending unit with the turbo oil line, etc under it in that diagram.

it's on the top of the engine in the middle towards the back of the engine bay under the fuel injection stuff next to the crankcase breather.

you'll have to at least remove the air cleaner to see it.

As you face the engine, it will be under and behind the fuel distributor. As Jim said, it's in the right rear corner, ON the engine.

Maybe this will help . . . this is a pic of the check valve assembly mounted on the engine (top, middle, near the firewall) . . .

Higher octane willnot affect the air fuel mix. It will help prevent detonation though.

What kind of guage? An AF Guage? Look at Innovate products. You can get them installed full time or temp for testing.

Books? Can't think of any technical books other than the factory manuals.

Four excellent books for all 911/930 owners are:

1) Porsche 911 Performance Handbook 1963-1998 3rd Edition by Bruce Anderson

2) Bosch Fuel Injection & Engine Management by Charles O. Probst

3) 101 Projects for Your Porsche 911 by Wayne R. Dempsey

4) How to Rebuild and Modify Porsche 911 Engines 1965-1989 by Wayne R Dempsey

The last two on the list are by the Pelican Parts CEO.
