starting 930 search
Hi guys
I have been reading this part of the forum for years, and occasionally pitched in if I felt I could help. I do not own a 911 turbo, but that is hopefully changing in a not to distant future. In about 1.5 month I am moving to the US, and a 930 is going to be parked in the garage. It is going to be a keeper, for me to take with me home after my four year stay. My first choice is a 78-79 ROW, but other cars that just seem right might work as well. The reason for the earliest 3.3 is taxation once I get back. Difference in tax from 78 to 89 is somewhere in the neighbourhood of 20k-30k. So I would rather spend the money on a awesome 78, than just giving my money to the government because I bought an 89. I have read a lot (books and PP) so I know the basics about 911/930. Nothing like what some of you guys are displaying though. I really hope you can help me with some no BS advice as I locate some cars. The first one is up on craiglist: PORSCHE 930 TURBO BLK/BLK LOW MILES I think it is somewhat expensive. Looks good though. Some info. from the owner: 9308800211 rebuilt on 7-21-04 6968 km since rebuild, work performed at Guys Porsche . mahle pistons and cylinder set , heads sent to lesco, installed 911 sport cams. What do you think? Thanks Jesper |

Why would you have to pay so much more tax on a newer car? A 30k 79 or 30k 89? What am I missing?

Well, I guess you are missing the essense of danish legislation regarding vehicle taxation.
Basically if I buy a car in the US: I pay the price of the car, ship it home, pay for shipping, import duties (+10%) plus VAT (+25%) and on top of all that you have to pay what is basically another 180% of what you allready paid. The 180% is however reduced according to the age of the vehicle until it has reached an age of 35 years. At which point it is considered a historic vehicle and the tax becomes negliable, but until then OMG. I have got a Carrera 3.0 in pieces here at home - unrestored. It runs me in about 60k US dollars (exchange rate dependable). It is just crazy. Jesper Last edited by jsveb; 06-15-2010 at 12:13 PM.. |

Do you have to pay taxes like that if it is strictly a track car?

If this car is of interest let me know as I am in Denver and would be more then happy to go take a look for you.
IMHO I think this car is overpriced, but then again I am still learning about these cars myself. I have seen cars with way more done to them, and as clean or cleaner then this car sell for much less in this market...

OH MY GOD !!!!!
Price of vehicle plus 180% and just think Ovomit is trying to turn us into another Denmark. I now second the motion I heard this morning to use him as the plug for the oil spill pipe in the Gulf. Cole

Buy an 78 and keep it as a track car for 4 years and then register it as a historic vehicle? I think that would mean you need to look for a car that has been kept stock though.
I would not care too much about miles if the engine and trans are rebuild or fresh. |

TAX vs track

I know it is expensive, but it only an asking price. Just throwing some options out there. Thanks for your opinion. Jesper |

If you have any tracks nearby just track it. Probably safer in all respects. And it will save you a bundle of money.

We don't have to many tracks in this area( in fact in the country) so I would certainly want to drive it
![]() I am probably gonna track anyways ![]() ![]() Though the Carrera 3.0 is going to be the hot rod. Jesper |

I will only ask you this if it is close to you, and not a burden to you. Please remember that I am still in Denmark (until august) so I am not able to jump on a good offer "just like that". Back to the car: I think it is quite expensive (too expensive), but it looks nice. I do however think the dash looks kind of weird. It looks as if I can see some staples (spelling) at the center vent outlet - not sure. What would a fair price be for an absolutely solid condition 930 like this be? I don't mind mods, as long as it is the right ones, made in the right way. The 930 that x98boardwell has listed looks simply awesome to me - except for the fact that it is an 1987. ![]() The one that e p slick sold a while back also seeemed like a really good option to me. Thanks again Jesper |

$39K seems high for that car especially without a zillion pictures showing how original it is.
Come on, the engine was rebuilt!!! $30K max, probably more like $25K.

If the car is priced right it doesn't. If the car is priced as a pristine, low mile, original example it does.

Yes, the Cibies are a nice touch.
This car supposedly has a very funny story to it, that U'll never guess. The PO being a part of it... Can't wait to feel how it drives. |
