Is this normal?

Okay was driving my 87 930 tonight, in 3rd gear i hit full boost and let off, and the sky lit up behind the car, so i did it again i notice that there are flames coming out the exhaust?......Should i be worried?

It's time for celebration when that happens. You have a cool car, yeah. Your car shoots flames man! How cool is that?

I usually try to time a full-bore 1-2 shift while I'm going through an underpass - lights up all 4 lanes - both directions.
enjoy
Bill K.

It also works very well as a ricer-crotch-rocket-tailgater repellant.

You're a lucky man! Not everyone can do that.

Ok, that does it. I have yet to do a full-on boost blast and let-off at night. Seems all my driving is during the day. Gonna have to do that and keep my eyes on the rear view mirror to see if I light up the neighborhood. But not real soon, 'cause currently we're having 40mph dry winds and fires burning in the not too distant forests. Around here it's desert, but it wouldn't take too much to roast some cheat grass and start a range fire. Of course, I would claim complete innocence.

That's like saying you woke up one morning and your shlong had grown. Should you be worried? NO!

All kidding aside, if this is a new phenomenon then you should look into it. Flames are the result of excess fuel burning off in the hot exhaust system. Not really a "normal" side effect of a properly adjusted fuel system. A malfunctioning throttle bypass valve or BOV can contribute to this.

CIS + boost + lift throttle =

EFI or MFI would not so it as much but I think even if you properly adjust the CIS for 99% of driving conditions, it will still give a flame once in a while after lifting from full boost.
