Price Check 83 911 SC Turbo Body
I'm looking an 83 911 SC with a turbo body (not factory) with 81K miles. Slate Blue/blue leather. Overall the condition is very well, but does need some TLC. It does have a go service history but I'm sure it going to need a top re-build due to the fact it smokes a little on start up.
With all that in mind what would be a rough estimate on pricing? Thanks ![]()

What year did the cabs start? I was thinking 84. Add that it may be a cab AND a turbo conversion. Why? Was it wrecked and rebuilt?
That said, a lot of engines smoke on start up. No idea on price. |

It's my understanding cabs started in the U.S. in late 84, but in Europe I think they were out in 83. What motor is in it? 3.2? It looks like you said it was a "turbo body". Just an idea, I paid less than well below 9k for my 84 911SC that was well optioned that include the wide polished color matched fuchs and a 930 turbo motor that needed the top end done. It also had a new clutch and trans rebuild. Recently I saw a 74 SC converted 911 (SC flares) with an 81 3.2 motor that ran well for $6700. I would have bought it,but I need to sell my 325. No room at the inn kind of thing... Good luck. Remeber buy well on the front end that's where it all starts. It should allow you to do repairs and possibly upgrades while staying "under market" should you need to get out.

So I would think that they were available in the US in 1983 as well. I'm still looking for an earlier serial # beside 0001 which I would think would be in the Porsche museum. ![]()

Were they sold in the U.S. prior to 84?

As found on Simon site; Simon's Porsche 911 SC Site
That include Canadian car; Das Babe is 0070. Not only was the car a true convertible, but it also featured four-wheel drive, although this was dropped in the production version. The first 911 Cabriolet debuted in late 1982, as a 1983 model. This was Porsche’s first cabriolet since the 356 of the mid-1960s. It proved very popular with 4,214 sold in its introductory year, despite its premium price relative to the open-top targa.[5] Cabriolet versions of the 911 have been offered ever since.

A VIN number would tell us if it's a ROW car or a US car. Seems ROW gets the best of everything before the US. If it's not a US car, it might have been federalized (if not a targa to can conversion).

Yes, 83 was the first year available.. owned one awhile back. It was a late car and I don't remember the build date. A relative of mine also owned one although his was a euro car.
One way to tell an 83 cabrio is that the windows do not go all the way down into the door. Don't ask why cause I don't know the answer to this one.

BMAN mentioned 'top re-build'... be interesting to see how the cab top could cause 'smokes a little on start up' just sayin' 8-) I'm in the $15k camp someone else mentioned - actually less really if it needs work and isn't pristine - more like $12k IMO. Non-factory M491... |

WOW... great memory I really wish I never sold that car ![]() The car in question has a build date of 5-83 and yes it was the first year for the cab, and it has a 3.0 engine. Its a US spec car so no worries there. I called around today to see what the going rate for a re-build in my area and two of them quoted $25-30K and the other one was $15K not saying it needs it but worse case. It hurts to look at my old car. ![]()

You and onboost admiring the beast. Was very cool when your car rocked up, a sea of 993s and 996s, nice cars but don't do a whole lot for me, was great to see the ol 930 totally steal the show!

WHAT?!? $25-30k to rebuild a 3.2? What are the plannng in doing to it? $15k is better, but I think that's still a tad high.

Yes, it a 3.0
You could rebuild it with 9.8:1 P&C's (IIRC) for higher compression and a few more ponies. It what the ROW SC's had. |

To be honest I'm not interested in performance just reliability. I just love the wide body. If I buy it I don't plan on making big changes to it like my 930. I would paint the wheels black, lower the front and a good detail.

Check this thread, some car have nothing done at the 200k miles mark; 100,000 Mileage Club And I used to worry about stuff like that. Que Sera, Sera... Like I tell my wife, you should not think about getting some ding on the car before you get the car and nobody get married while thinking it could end-up as a divorce case... Negotiate a good deal an go for it. J.J
