Received My PPI Results Today 91 964 Turbo
I received the call this morning on the results of the PPI on a 91 964 Turbo with 73K miles that I'm interested in buying. I asked for a compression & leak down test, had them look at a small oil leak and why it had a pull to the right.
The pull to the right was from a bad alignment, they did a 4 wheel alignment to solved the pulling issues. The oil leak is from one of the valve covers and is very slight, and suggested not to replace the seal at this time. Here are the compression/leak down readings. 1 125 5% 2 125 6% 3 125 4% 4 125 5% 5 125 6% 6 130 3% The tech said they were good numbers with 73K miles. Do those numbers look in range for this year and miles? Thanks

BMAN when I bought my 83' 930 it had similar results with no more then 4%. I personally think those are great numbers, but I am sure some other guys will chime in here.

Curious BMan you sold your 930 not all that long ago after putting alot of work and $$ into it and now you are buying a car that is pretty close to a 930 but looks the same to your previous 930. Just want to try something a generation newer?
P.S: The compression and leak down look fine!

Sweet
Bernard,
Glad to have you back in the mix. I sold my 930 and am looking for a 996 TT convertible now... just havent found the right one. I have been told by (Neil Harvey.. I think I'm saying his name right) and some very other reliable mechanics that as long as you are under 10% on leak down that you are clear with no issues. They said some newer Porsches can have 8-10% with less than 10k on the clock. Just another tid bit of info. Take care, Bryan

Hi Bryan,
Well I never went anywhere just didn't post much after I sold the 930. I really started to miss it and went on the hunt for another turbo and came across a 91 Turbo that I felt would fill the void I picked it up today and feel good about my decision I made. I'm going to give her a good bath tomorrow and yes, I'll post pictures ![]()

Open question - when you reference leak down results, are you referring to an engine at operating temp or a cold motor? Franz Blam Racing tests them cold and suggests that numbers higher than 10 are perfectly fine. |

On both of my PPI I had to have the car dropped off the day before so the engine was nice and cold.
