Turbo 'lag' on a 3.3L engine, and turbo-"chirps"

Before I got my car back 2 months ago, I was anticipating a serious scenario of turbo-lag(like on my friends Audi TT 225HP), but after getting the car, it seems just like my old 3.0L SC engine, except at roughly 3500RPM's, at which point it's anything BUT the old 3.0

Did the earlier cars have a significant lag issue(1975-1979), because in the 86' 930 motor I installed, it's an absolute joy to drive all across the RPM range(it does have a K-27).

Note: On several YOUTUBE video's, I notice a 'chirping' on some 930 turbo's, but the only thing I hear on my car under boost is a serious hissing from the back-left(with the overall engine being very quiet compared to the 3.0SC engine). Is that 'chirping' sound I hear on Youtube an open turbo intake, or what?

Thanks!

Sounds like what your hearing on your car is the wastegate opening. If stock, it has a small muffler attached in later model cars. Early cars were vented to the muffler.

Cars with EFI have a BOV that gives off a chirping sound during shifts.
