Thumbs up Repair broken Stud for front rubber chin (lip)

Hi Guys,

Was going to put together my front bumper and spoiler for the 930 last week, as I had gotten them back from the paintshop.

When I was about to re-install the "Rubber-Chin" for the front "spoiler" (if I can call it that), I saw that one of the studs that mounts on the side was all rusted. The stud just went round and round and round when screwing on the nut... I would guess that someone has had the front repainted before and then they attached the front rubber lip poorly again. If there is a small glitch, water and moist will break through and create corrosion. I've seen an other Post on the forum for fixing the Rubber on the rear Wing. But nothing for the front-lip. So... This is how we fixed mine!

As seen above the whole metal-plate that we holding the other stud, was completelty rusted apart. I scraped out all the rust-powder with a knife and has to cut some of the rubber open to make sure all rust was removed.

We made a Dummy out of Cardboard to make sure we could cut out a metal-plate that would fit perfect.

We also had to cut out a groove for the plate, down like ½inch into the rubber. This to make sure that the metal-plate can't move or be twisted.

All bad rubber removed and we could actually keep one of the studs. This one was still intact and didn't budge at all.

The metal-plate cut and ready to be worked on!

Here is the 90-deg angle that will fit down in the groove. We've also drilled 3 holes. 1 that goes over the old stud. 1 that we will weld on a new stud to. And 1 that goes towards the bottom that is mounted with a bolt and nut.

We did some cuts in the plate to make sure that it would be fitted tight down in the groove.

Doing a test to see if the plate fits good enough!

Attached glue and pressing the plate in to place.

Make sure that there is pressure at the right spots!

Let the Glue dry for 24 Hours!

Glue dry after 24 hours!

Time to put black glue/silicon on the metal-plate to seal it completely!

ALL DONE! Will install the Rubber-Chin tonight as the silicon will be all dry then!

Will be exciting to see if it fits perfect compared to before!

Best Regards

Tobias

Good work!

The only thing I might have added was to somehow rust proof the metal you installed. Maybe some 3M Extenz spray on rustproofer?

Update

Hi again Guys,

Thought I'd update you with more pics on the "project"...

I still had a tiny glitch when we mounted the front lip to the spoiler. Wanted it to be completely sealed, so pressed some silicon in to place:

The other side was slimmed perfect to the spoiler!

The Slicon got to dry 24 hours on the drivers-side, and after that the "chin lip" was slimmed like a tight glove

Also tested to fit the front bumper in to place. However the paint shop broke all the plastic clips for the bumper rubber stipe, so I need to order new ones.... Car is comming together slooooowly. Will be nice when she is done!

Best Regards

/Toby
