new member 930 project
Posted up on Renn, but this forum seems to have more traffic.
Just wanted to say hello to the forums and get some input on my latest project. I used to work on this car at my shop years ago (1993-1994) and actually did some track days in it at NHIS. The owner blew the top end (1994) of one of the cylinders and pulled the engine and trans out of it. While the engine was stored for several years in a storage trailer, something happened and all the drive train was lost. I saw the shell at an impound yard about 2 months ago and inquired, thinking it was in impound (obvious thought) and it was not. It was still owned by the same guy that took it off the road 16 years ago. Well over the past couple of months negotiations took place and I got it delivered today. Here's a few pics here. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Welcome to Pelican!
What are your plans for the car? You came to the correct forum to get tech info and leads on parts... nice that it is such low mileage!

Not sure what to do yet. I am torn between rebuilding it back to a semi-era accurate 930 or doing a newer conversion. I have a good fabrication background and I have done several other conversions on BMW and VW. I have also thought about doing a mid engine car. I know the latter option would not be preferred in this forum, but a 600 hp mid engine RWD 930 would be one hell of a track car.

Thank you for rescuing that poor car. Whatever you decided to do to that car is better than it's current state. That car deserve to be driven. Poor thing.

Thanks for the warm welcome to this forum. I need to dig into it over the next couple of weeks to see how bad things are from sitting for 17 years. I had to replace all the valve stems so I could roll the car into my garage, they rotted off. LOL

Nice!
Those are sometimes some of the most fantastic projects, the ones you have a relationship with and then find later on, cool. I'll be interested to watch the process! Well welcome.

Thanks, I used to have a full shop years ago, but now I just have this at my house. Most people actually ask if my girls car is a real Judge (it is) first, then comment on the shop.

Any suggestions on what I should look for in the lines of a donor car for newer engine (turbo version only) and transmission. I have no problem with changing fuel systems or upgrading engine management. I have been contemplating looking for a newer salvage car with more updated engine management.
Also is there a place where I can do more research on what the newer models changed in regards to suspension and brake upgrades over the years. I am certain much has changed over the years from 81 to current. Thanks for all the responses. It's nice to be in a forum with so many other like minded enthusiasts. |

The most comrehensive book for research purposes that I am aware of, and basically the porsche bible:
Amazon.com: Porsche 911 Story: The Entire Development History (9781844253012): Paul Frere: Books Another good one: Amazon.com: Porsche 911 Performance Handbook, 1963-1998: 3rd Edition (Motorbooks Workshop) (9780760331804): Bruce Anderson: Books These are good reference books for the whole 911 turbo line up. This is definitely the better website by the way, and you will actually find some people here who are not hung up on what type of mods you do on the car! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! |
