993 ss cams and turbo
Hi:
I have a 3.2 carrera with Protomotive on the side turbo. My engine needs a rebuild due to smoking and high oil consumption. And as i am in there I was thinking about a cam change. I talked with Camgrinder about the 993 ss cams and he told me that its a step in the right direction with my combination for sure. But he told me that they need fine tuning, not only the chip. So for a stock 3.2 turbo at 0.7 to 0.8 bar intercooled, what is the fine tuning he suggest for the 993 ss cams? Playing with the flow meter to adjust mixture, timing, etc? Any suggestion from any of the guys that run them in NA or Turbos, did you had to adjust anything other than the chip? Thanks in advance for your attention, Francisco Soto |

Not an expert but here are a few thoughts.
What is the upper power range of those cams? The stock rods become questionable above about 6700rpm which is where the 3.2 cams start to fall off. 964's are about the most radical cams that seem to be smogable if that is relevant. The stock 3.2 cam is a very good mid range power turbo cam. Usually a more aggressive cam is going to move the power band to a higher rpm at the expense of some TQ. On the other side, if you are running stock higher compression pistons, a more aggressive cam lowers the effective compression ratio some. 964's lower it about a half point over your SC/3.2 cam.
