delayed starting to no starting

i've done a search for a similar thread but have found none. here's what has happened:
i've left the 911 parked for about 4 months in my father's garage, and he said that he has moved it a few times. i went to move it last weekend, turned the key, nothing, then it kicked on. a few hours later i went to move it back, same thing, about a second delay before the starter engaged. parked it, thought that something was weird about that, tried it again and the car wouldn't start at all, no more delayed starting, just good old fashion no starting, sometimes the car would click when i'd turn the key, sometimes it wouldn't. headlights came on, radio came on... i was in a hurry at the time and didn't have time to dig around much but what could it be??? the car is a 1978 911 sc 3.0 w/101k miles.
i'm thinking that the battery is probably fine, but where should i look first, who else has dealt with this?

Classic symptoms of bad or corroded battery connections. The starter draws so many amps that a bad connection will still allow things like lights and radios to work, but when you try the starter.....nada.
Also check and clean all ground connection straps.
