Patrick Zimmerman at DP Motorsport has been contacted by the seller to get the build information as they would know for sure as they built it.
In an earlier post I raised a similar question about this. Wth the stock 70-80s Porsche intercooler on the DP motor the 911 turbo chassis may not have been redesigned to handle a lot of HP as this motor is a very mild street build. DP Motorsports, were able at that time, to put together cars with some serious HP. A spirited drive would also indicate how stiff the chassis is.

I'm just curious as to what model Porsche this DP started out life as, since it is a 1984 model, I assume it started out as a plain non-turbo 911 targa. The real Porsche vin # should be stamped into the chassis, on a pad, right behind the fuel tank in the front compartment. This is not a vin plate, it is actually stamped into the chassis.

vin tag was on inside of passenger fender. i have a friend buying my 96 turbo 993. if the deal goes through i am going to try to buy the targa. i have seen it twice now. it is awesome! it's actually more kinetic than dp. i thumbed through all the paperwork. this guy dropped some serious cash on the motor.

I'm not talking about a removeable vin tag that is riveted on, I'm talking about the actual Porsche vin number which is stamped on a non-removeable pad right behind the fuel tank in the front compartment. That would tell us what this car started life as, which i assume is a plain 911 targa since there were no turbo targas in 1984.

The VIN on the windshield plate is W09ZZZ235E0Z03003. Can't you call Porsche and ask them?

I found a List of the dp-built (w09...) cars.
It is a 3.3l Turbo Targa in black!

But this is everything we wrote down of the cars!

Now that wasn't so hard to do, was it? Now there is verification that this is indeed a DP built car for all interested buyers and others ( gumba website ) who may want to know.

Nice job Tony. .. As I mention before this car is a unique car...

"As of the 1981 model year, all vehicles are identified by an internationally standardized 17-digit chassis number." Obviously, this vehicle started out as an actual Porsche model car, the correct European Vin number should start with WP0 and not W09, which is listed on the ebay listing. There is no such Porsche factory Vin number starting with W09. Like I said I'm curious to see, what this car started out life as. The original Vin number, issued from the factory, should be STAMPED on a non-removeable pad on the chassis in the front compartment just above the fuel tank.

Thank you for the information, that tells me that it started out as a regular 911 3.2 targa.

This is the problem for the new style collectors. Those cars where made in early eighties and started upp with just a Porsche body, For DP Motorsport all body was the same from start: and it das not matter if it was a Turbo or non turbo., The Chassie was he same ecxept the VIN numbers. I have seen many copies of DP cars. some of them even have a nice ID plate . Of course with wrong DP logo (like this black car).
All DP cars have a unique specification that the buyer decide. I suppose that the
VIN number was not of interest in the eighties. My self I don't care as long the car is a real DP. And its not a original Porsche.

Merry Christmas

A VIN Number was not the subject, The car was the subject....

The DP targa reserve has been lifted and the bid is now @$51K. Should it really be worth more than that???. Otherwise his recently modded to "RUF" car, also on ebay, will need to get bid to $33K to meet this goal. I think the real DP Motorsports targa is comparatively a bargain in this pricing format.
