Wheel bling... One winter project down and many to go.

I just completed refurbishing the front wheels for my 930 as they were in pretty bad shape from years of normal use. The wheels are 17" Kenisis Supercups and 11" wide rears are in progress and almost completed as well.

I fully disassembled the wheels, re-sprayed the centers, polished the outers/bolts and cleaned up the inner wheel halves as well.

I hope that everyones winter projects are going well.

What/How did you polish them? I'm getting ready to take my tires off, clean them front and back, polish them and have tires installed. I was planning on using Mothers and a Powerball. Let me know what you did because those look SWEET!!!!

They look fantastic.

I love the RH 3.6 wheels and these are a lot like that. Didn't know Kinesis made those.

Any pics of the car with them on?

I've added a photo showing the wheels on my 930.. Wheels shown before the reconditioning..

I dig Hemi Mopars as well...

The wheel centers were re-sprayed with silver automotive base/clear. I cleaned up the inner halves, coated with carbon from many years of braking, with a rotary type of schotch-brite pad that I found a AutoZone in the paint supply area. This type of abrasive pad works great to remove brake grime for the inner wheel half.

As for the outer wheel half.... These take forever and once you do them to a fine polish you'll never neglect them again. I've got almost 30 hours in sanding and polishing just the outers on the four wheels. I just spent 4-6 hours re-sanding / polishing the fronts for the last time since I couldn't bring myself to put them next to the nicely painted centers just yet

Outer wheel half sanding / polishing process:

Use 400 grit - wet sanding with a rigid backer on all of the flat surfaces to smooth out the wheel pitting. Don't be affraid to be pretty aggresive with the 400 grit.
Use 600 grit - wet sanding in multiple directions to work out all of the 400 grit sanding marks as well as smooth the surfaces.
Use 1000 grit - wet sanding in multiple directions to work out all of the 600 grit sanding marks as well as smooth the surfaces.
Use XXXX steel wool and Mothers aluminum polish too work out the 1000 grit.
Clean the wheel with wax remover/paint degreaser.
Polish with white compound using a medium stiff wheel for light polishing pass.
Clean the wheel with wax remover/paint degreaser.
Polish with green compound using a soft buffing wheel for high luster polishing pass.
NOTE: You must use a different buffing wheel with each different buffing compound. You can't mix comounds and use one buffing wheel.

Inspect for pitted areas and repeat sanding with 600 grit, 1000 grit, etc. as needed.

I ended up re-sanding and polishing at least 3 times to get the new-like appearance.

I love the power ball, but I I can generate more heat using a 6" buffing wheel on my bench-top grinder with the correct compounds.

That Mopar looks pretty bada$$, as well. Is it mini-tubbed in the rear?

lol, nice. I have a Plymouth duster getting a new 440 (soon to be 510 ccs) at my house next to my two 911s.

I like the ride man.
