special thanks to all who gave me the alternator/regulator advice

Just wanted to drop a thanks to all who helped with there alternator and regulator suggestions. I ended up having a few issues in the alternator and the regulator was also replaced. just a FYI. my problem started with an Erratic RPM gauge. nothing else just that. the shop that re-built the alternator said the regulator was working fine they just replace the brushes or the two metal contacts on it(I don't know the proper terms). He then moved the terminal that the blue wire was on to the other bank as he thought that was the correct way to have the system hooked up. put everything back on the car and was having the same problem as before but now the idiot light was on. switched it back and the idiot light went off but the RPM gauge was dancing again. I had already purchased the new regulator from Pelican so for the 4th time in a weekend I pulled it apart again and now it works perfectly. apparently a alternator working perfectly on a test bench is not he same as in a car. Thanks again

That's good news! I hate reworking something over and over, but it feels good to get done right.
