catah can

Anybody with a good source for a oil catch can? How about someone that has built there own? Lets see what you guys are using. Philip

Look at Summit or Jegs. They have several including one that fits the hose coming off the oil tank filler (that went to the air filter).

I can post a pix tomorrow.

I've made a few now. this one here is for my GLH turbo dodge. The second, not pictured yet is for the Porsche, after I removed the factory airbox. Instead of just putting filters on the end of the oil vent pipes I'm putting a small catch can on with a filter on the top. I may also change it from a filter to a fitting to attach
to the top of the air filter..pics soonhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1298552632.jpg

I've done quite a few of these, Peterson Fluids Systems makes nice cans. Proper crank ventilation commonly overlooked. In kit form, Jim Patrick of Patrick MS has a good deal going and specific to Porsche.

Serviceable with internal baffles, drain plugs and lightweight aluminum etc...

A930 Rocket; Thats the can I'm looking for. Any more info on where to source? I checked the links you mentioned, but to no avail. David, nice custom touch, really thinking outside of the box. Philip

Just made this the other day..It does not replace the one by the oil tank but is
used for 2 hoses that normally hook up to the factory airbox. Some people just put little filters on them but I figured I'd make something small but neat

Try searching for Moroso products at Summut and Jegs. It's not called a catch. can but something else. Overflow tank maybe?

Made this for my turbo 535is, but will be using on the 930.

I also have the Moroso version in my car. Here is the link on Jeggs

1" hose connection

I have been looking for a tank with a 1" ID hose connection. I would like to not reduce the vent size from the oil tank. What is the ID of a #12 an fitting. Philip

A930Rocket 02-25-2011 09:09 AM

-12 is just under 1" as I measured mine, but it fits perfectly. No need to squeeze down the hose.

looks like jegs is beating summitt by about 4 bucks on the moroso

A930Rocket 02-25-2011 12:42 PM

Even with shipping they beat Summit by a couple of bucks.

AN fitting size

Going to a chart on the web, I see a 12 AN fitting has a inside dia of only 11/16. The oil tank breather hose on my car measures 1" inside dia. This is more than a 25% reduction in ID. I would like to find a can with at least a 1" connection. With the new breather assembly/turbo drip tank that am installing, the vent from the drip tank will not be hooked up further more eliminating yet another way for the oiling system to breath. Any input on this guys? Philip

I held a tape measure to mine. The outside of the threads are ~15/16. The ID is ~12/16.

I can take a picture tomorrow.

Yes, my mechanic also agrees with the 1" theory... without it, could cause pressure to build in crank case...
