Best location for custom air filter placement?
Hi all,
Just wonder where the best location is in the engine bay for locating the left and right air filters in a twin turbo configuration. Anyone got pics of TT setups showing where the air filters are located? I recall seeing RUF CTR pics and the airbox was located above the motor / throttle body. That's fine if the intercoolers are located on the side walls, but what if the intercooler is mounted on top of the motor? Not much room there, so I guess I'm limited to the sides of the motor  I even considered bolting the air filters directly onto the compressor inlets, but then I can't vent the BOV's back into the air intake. Thoughts / suggestions? |
Are you running CIS or EFI ?
If EFI you can vent BOV to atmosphere |
EFI, and venting to atmo is illegal in my area :(

Ha, pretty sure every mod I've done to my car is 'illegal.' I suspect you won't be speeding in the car either?

I have been thinking about this same thing. I would no recommend mounting the filter in the compressor inlet as it put them under the car. This would be very bad in the rain not to mention the heat down their from the turbo's and exhaust that will be sucked in. Getting the plumbing sorted so that it can be pulled from the engine bay can be a chalenge as well. I was actually thinking of just cutting a hole in the lower back corners to run the inlet pipe through on each side. I was also toying with the idea of making a custom air-box that would except a standard rectangle air filter as well. I have two NACA ducts on both sides of my tail base that I was going to try to use to capture fresh air for this purpose as well. Unless your Intercooler is extends forward beyond the TB you will still have plenty of room just behind the firewall for the filters and air-box.

Here is my setup on a single turbo. You could duplicate it for a twin.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1300914043.jpg
