Modern radios in old Porsches

I have the ubiquitous modern Alpine radios in my 930 and my 911. They do everything I want, including hands off BT phone, but they are butt ugly - like a neon sign on the side of a cathedral.

Anyone have any suggestions for a modern radio that fits in better visually with the character of the car?

It's not old looking but it's clean and it has 210,000 color options so you could get it to match the patina the factory lights produce.

Pioneer DEH-80PRS

It is honestly an amazing stereo too.

i went with the Alpine as well. I have the same feeling. but for the price and what it does you cant beat it. i do like listening to the sounds of the car but its hard to beat listening to Satellite radio or your entire music collection downloaded onto a memory stick.

I have been setting up iPads and iPhones through Bluetooth receivers to the sound system. I eliminate the stereo completely. But have stereo, GPS, Pandora and hands free. But also on the other hand, I am making a new center console that is updating my interior. It's a drastic change but it does have possibilities.

Before & after photos. Much better. This 930 was originally ordered radio delete. Previous owner installed a cheezy Alpine, Ugh.

Isn't there a place on line that has modern stereos that look exactly like the OEM radio?

You could also hookup a recent Porsche CDR head unit to your car. I think they look great, but the illumination is amber. However, it sure beats some stereo doing a light show with swimming dolphins and what not.

I think the best alternative is an aftermarket amplifier that has an auxiliary input - that way you retain the factory look and gain power!

Mine has a Panasonic. It's aftermarket...so of course I don't like it. I do have the original Blaupunkt but the security password didn't come with it so it's useless.

Regardless, I don't do "radio" much when in the 930. Ruins the ambiance.

I wish I had my original blaupunkt. I don't even remember the last time I turned on my radio.

Only around 30 ( world wide inventory) original radio delete plates are still available to order from any Porsche parts dept. A $15.00 upgrade that some may want for a better look and/or sound.

Here is mine. A Mcintosh mx406. A nice retro look. While some opt for no music(other than the engine) I do like to listen to some nice tunes on a long trip.

Mcintosh

+1 for the Mcintosh Head Units. It is true Hi Fidelity without all the frills.

I have a Denon in mine. It is far from modern but it looks and sounds good.

Becker Mexicos have long been popular, very retro and lots of features. And lots of $.

I kept my original in place and hid a modern head unit in the glove compartment, amp under one seat and sub under the other seat.

I didn't realize that people actually listened to the radio in there Porsches......I honestly don't. But for looks I like the blaupunkt radios because of the non-flashy black look.
