Paint Stock Wastegate?
Is it a bad idea to paint the circled portion of the stock wastegate? Mine's pretty rusty [that's not mine in picture...] and would like to freshen it up...
But, don't know what that will do to it's ability to dissipate heat... Thanks, Shannon

Paint probably won't stay on anyway even if it's exhaust paint. Just take it off and bead blast it.

I painted mine with VHT super high temp and it held. You need to follow the paint directions though and bake it in the oven between stages. Mine has been on for two years now. Its the highest temp paint they have. Similar to header paint but this stuff is thicker. Usually header paint is pretty thin.

thanks on the VHT. Can I paint this VHT over the surface rust, or should I take it somewhere first and bead blast?
BTW: I can't seem to locate the "super" high temp... only High Temp... Is there actually a Super High Temp?

Don't paint that piece as those are cooling fins. It may not effect it a bunch there is a way cleaner look... make it look like the picture you have above. I would media blast that section, make it look brand new and then powdercoat the other portion. It is an easy job if you happen to already be doing your valve covers.
Mine was rusty as well and now it looks brand new... with some color. ![]()
